Hurricane Delta clipped the northeastern corner of the Yucatan Peninsula on Wednesday morning and watches were issued for portions of the U.S. Gulf Coast.\u00a0 At 11:00 a.m EDT on Wednesday the center of Hurricane Delta was located at latitude 21.4\u00b0N and longitude 88.0\u00b0W which put it about 65 miles (105 km) west-southeast of Cabo Catoche, Mexico.\u00a0 Delta was moving toward the northwest at 17 m.p.h. (28 km\/h).\u00a0 The maximum sustained wind speed was 105 m.p.h. (165 km\/h) and there were wind gusts to 125 m.p.h. (200 km\/h).\u00a0 The minimum surface pressure was 975 mb.<\/p>\n
A Hurricane Warning was in effect for the portion of the coast from Tulum to Dzilam, Mexico including Cozumel.\u00a0 <\/span><\/strong>A Hurricane Watch was issued for the portion of the coast from High Island, Texas to Grand Isle, Louisiana.\u00a0 Tropical Storm Warnings were in effect for the portions of coast from Punta Herrero to Tulum, Mexico and from Dzilam to Progreso, Mexico.\u00a0 <\/span><\/strong>Tropical Storm Watches were issued for the portions of the coast from San Luis Pass to High Island, Texas and from Grand Isle, Louisiana to Bay St. Louis, Mississippi including New Orleans, Lake Pontchartrain and Lake Maurepas.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n Hurricane Delta brought strong winds and locally heavy rain to the northeastern Yucatan Peninsula and the island of Cozumel on Wednesday morning.\u00a0 The center of Delta officially made landfall on the coast about 20 miles (30 km) south of Cancun, Mexico.\u00a0 A weather station in Cancun reported a sustained wind speed of 84 m.p.h. (135 km\/h) and a wind gust of 106 m.p.h.
