{"id":1368,"date":"2015-08-19T17:16:03","date_gmt":"2015-08-19T17:16:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/?p=1368"},"modified":"2015-08-19T21:26:55","modified_gmt":"2015-08-19T21:26:55","slug":"tropical-storm-danny-heading-west","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/?p=1368","title":{"rendered":"Tropical Storm Danny Heading West"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Tropical Storm Danny has moved steadily westward during the past 24 hours.\u00a0 At 11:00 a.m. EDT on Wednesday the center of Tropical Storm Danny was located at latitude 11.2\u00b0N and longitude 41.1\u00b0W which put it about 1385 miles (2235 km) east of the Lesser Antilles and about 2740 miles (4410 km) east-southeast of Miami, Florida.\u00a0 Danny was moving toward the west at 12 m.p.h. (19 km\/h).\u00a0 The maximum sustained wind speed was 50 m.p.h. (80 km\/h) and there were wind gusts to 60 m.p.h. (95 km\/h).\u00a0 The minimum surface pressure was 1000 mb.<\/p>\n<p>The organization of the circulation of Danny has varied during the past day.\u00a0 It has a visible tight core at the center, but earlier today there was no convection around the core.\u00a0 Recent satellite images show new thunderstorms developing near the core.\u00a0 The environment around Danny is complex and it contains both positive and negative factors.\u00a0 Danny is currently over water where the Sea Surface Temperature (SST) is near 28\u00b0C.\u00a0 However, there is slightly cooler water just to the north of the tropical storm.\u00a0 Satellite imagery indicates that there could also be drier air north of the circulation and some of that drier air could be pulled into Danny.\u00a0 The upper level winds are light and upper level divergence is occurring.\u00a0 However, a surge in the low level trade winds is about 250 miles (400 km) east of Danny.\u00a0\u00a0 If the surge in the trade winds reaches the core of Danny, it could push the lower part of the circulation out ahead (to the west) of the upper part of the circulation.\u00a0 In that case Danny would weaken.<\/p>\n<p>The complexity of the environment around Tropical Storm Danny makes the intensity forecast challenging.\u00a0 If the trade wind surge does not reach the core of Danny and it stays over warm SSTs, then gradual intensification is possible.\u00a0 On the other hand, if Danny moves more northward over cooler SSTs and into drier air, or if the trade wind surge creates more vertical wind shear, then Danny could weaken.<\/p>\n<p>A subtropical ridge to the north of Danny is steering Danny toward the west and a generally west or west-northwest motion is forecast for the next few days.\u00a0 If Danny is a little stronger, it could move a little farther north, and if it is weaker, it could stay farther south.\u00a0 On its anticipated track, Danny could approach the Lesser Antilles in four or five days.\u00a0 Interests in those areas should monitor Danny for future developments.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tropical Storm Danny has moved steadily westward during the past 24 hours.\u00a0 At 11:00 a.m. EDT on Wednesday the center of Tropical Storm Danny was located at latitude 11.2\u00b0N and longitude 41.1\u00b0W which put it about 1385 miles (2235 km) east of the Lesser Antilles and about 2740 miles (4410 km) east-southeast of Miami, Florida.\u00a0 [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[3,2],"tags":[138,20,139],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1368"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=1368"}],"version-history":[{"count":2,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1368\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":1370,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1368\/revisions\/1370"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=1368"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=1368"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=1368"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
