{"id":21178,"date":"2024-09-23T13:20:13","date_gmt":"2024-09-23T13:20:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/?p=21178"},"modified":"2024-09-23T13:26:59","modified_gmt":"2024-09-23T13:26:59","slug":"tropical-storm-john-rapidly-intensifies-south-of-mexico","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/?p=21178","title":{"rendered":"Tropical Storm John Rapidly Intensifies South of Mexico"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Tropical Storm John rapidly intensified over the Eastern North Pacific Ocean south of Mexico on Monday morning.\u00a0 A Hurricane Warning was issued for a portion of the coast of Mexico.\u00a0 At 8:00 a.m. EDT on Monday the center of Tropical Storm John was located at latitude 14.5\u00b0N and longitude 98.5\u00b0W which put the center about 125 miles (200 km) south of Punta Maldonado, Mexico.\u00a0 John was moving toward the north-northeast at 3 m.p.h. (5 km\/h).\u00a0 The maximum sustained wind speed was 65 m.p.h. (105 km\/h) and there were wind gusts to 80 m.p.h. (130 km\/h).\u00a0 The minimum surface pressure was 994 mb.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">A Hurricane Warning was in effect for the portion of the coast from Punta Maldonado to Bahias de Huatulco, Mexico.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">A Tropical Storm Warning was in effect for the portion of the coast from Bahias de Huatulco to Salina Cruz, Mexico.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Former Tropical Depression Ten-E rapidly intensified to Tropical Storm John on Monday morning.\u00a0 The inner end of a rainband wrapped around the center of John&#8217;s circulation and a small eye was forming at the center of Tropical Storm John.\u00a0 The eye was surrounded by a ring of thunderstorms and the strongest winds were occurring in that ring of storms.\u00a0 Bands of showers and thunderstorms were revolving around the core of Tropical Storm John.\u00a0 Storms near the core generated upper level divergence that pumped mass away from the tropical storm.<\/p>\n<p>The circulation around Tropical Storm John was small.\u00a0 Winds to tropical storm force extended out 35 miles (55 km) from the center of John&#8217;s circulation.<\/p>\n<p>Tropical Storm John will move through an environment favorable for intensification during the next 24 hours.\u00a0 John will move over water where the Sea Surface Temperatures are near 30\u00b0C.\u00a0 It will be in a region where the upper level winds are weak and there will be little vertical wind shear.\u00a0 Tropical Storm John will intensify during the next 24 hours.\u00a0 John is likely to strengthen to a hurricane.<\/p>\n<p>Tropical Storm John will move around the southeastern part of a large counterclockwise circulation over southern Mexico sometimes called a Central American Gyre (CAG).\u00a0 The large counterclockwise circulation will steer John slowly toward the northeast during the next 24 hours.\u00a0 On its anticipated track, Tropical Storm John will approach the coast of Mexico on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Tropical Storm John is likely to be a hurricane when it approaches the coast of Mexico.\u00a0 John will bring strong winds and heavy rain to parts of southern Mexico.\u00a0 Very heavy rain is likely to fall in Chiapas, Oaxaca, and southeast Guerrero.\u00a0 Heavy rain is likely to cause flash floods in some locations.\u00a0 Tropical Storm John also could cause a storm surge of 8 feet (2,4 meters) along parts of the coast.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tropical Storm John rapidly intensified over the Eastern North Pacific Ocean south of Mexico on Monday morning.\u00a0 A Hurricane Warning was issued for a portion of the coast of Mexico.\u00a0 At 8:00 a.m. EDT on Monday the center of Tropical Storm John was located at latitude 14.5\u00b0N and longitude 98.5\u00b0W which put the center about [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[4,2],"tags":[745,3737,1746,746,1720,1133,24,1747,2907,2908,3736],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/21178"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=21178"}],"version-history":[{"count":3,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/21178\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":21181,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/21178\/revisions\/21181"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=21178"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=21178"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=21178"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
