Tropical Storm John rapidly intensified over the Eastern North Pacific Ocean south of Mexico on Monday morning.\u00a0 A Hurricane Warning was issued for a portion of the coast of Mexico.\u00a0 At 8:00 a.m. EDT on Monday the center of Tropical Storm John was located at latitude 14.5\u00b0N and longitude 98.5\u00b0W which put the center about 125 miles (200 km) south of Punta Maldonado, Mexico.\u00a0 John was moving toward the north-northeast at 3 m.p.h. (5 km\/h).\u00a0 The maximum sustained wind speed was 65 m.p.h. (105 km\/h) and there were wind gusts to 80 m.p.h. (130 km\/h).\u00a0 The minimum surface pressure was 994 mb.<\/p>\n
