{"id":21278,"date":"2024-10-01T22:08:06","date_gmt":"2024-10-01T22:08:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/?p=21278"},"modified":"2024-10-01T22:08:06","modified_gmt":"2024-10-01T22:08:06","slug":"tropical-depression-forms-south-of-mexico","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/?p=21278","title":{"rendered":"Tropical Depression Forms South of Mexico"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Tropical Depression Eleven-E formed over the Eastern North Pacific Ocean south of Mexico on Tuesday afternoon.\u00a0 A Tropical Storm Warning and a Tropical Storm Watch were issued for portions of the coast of Mexico.\u00a0 At 5:00 p.m. EDT on Tuesday the center of Tropical Depression Eleven-E was located at latitude 15.1\u00b0N and longitude 94.6\u00b0W which put the center about 85 miles (135 km) south-southeast of Salina Cruz, Mexoco.\u00a0 The tropical depression was moving toward the north at 5 m.p.h. (8 km\/h).\u00a0 The maximum sustained wind speed was 35 m.p.h. (55 km\/h) and there were wind gusts to 45 m.p.h. (75 km\/h).\u00a0 The minimum surface pressure was 1006 mb.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for the portion of the coast from Puerto Angel to Boca de Pijijiapan, Mexico.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for the portion of the coast from Boca de Pijijiapan to the Mexico\/Guatemala border.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>A low pressure system over the Gulf of Tehuantepec strengthened on Tuesday afternoon and the U.S. National Hurricane Center designated the system as Tropical Depression Eleven-E.\u00a0 A distinct low level center of circulation was evident on visible satellite images.\u00a0 The strongest thunderstorms were occurring in bands in the western side of the tropical depression.\u00a0 There were also thunderstorms in bands in the eastern periphery of the circulation around Tropical Depression Eleven-E.\u00a0 Storms near the center of circulation generated upper level divergence that pumped mass away from the tropical depression.<\/p>\n<p>Tropical Depression Eleven-E will move through an environment somewhat favorable for intensification during the next 24 hours.\u00a0 The tropical depression will move over water where the Sea Surface Temperatures are near 30\u00b0C.\u00a0 It will move under the southern side of an upper level ridge over Mexico.\u00a0 The upper level ridge will produce easterly winds that will blow toward the top of the tropical depression.\u00a0 Those winds will cause moderate vertical wind shear.\u00a0 The wind shear will inhibit intensification, but the shear will not be enough to prevent some intensification.\u00a0 Tropical Depression Eleven-E is likely to intensify to a tropical storm during the next 24 hours.<\/p>\n<p>Tropical Depression Eleven-E will move around the eastern side of a trough of low pressure that extended from central Mexico to the Eastern North Pacific Ocean.\u00a0 The trough of low pressure will steer the tropical depression slowly toward the north during the next 24 hours.\u00a0 On its anticipated track, the center of Tropical Depression Eleven-E will make landfall on the coast of Mexico near Salina Cruz in about 24 hours.<\/p>\n<p>Tropical Depression Eleven-E is likely to be a tropical storm when it makes landfall on the south coast of Mexico.\u00a0 It will bring strong winds and locally heavy rain to Oaxaca and Chiapas.\u00a0 Heavy rain is likely to cause floods in some locations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tropical Depression Eleven-E formed over the Eastern North Pacific Ocean south of Mexico on Tuesday afternoon.\u00a0 A Tropical Storm Warning and a Tropical Storm Watch were issued for portions of the coast of Mexico.\u00a0 At 5:00 p.m. EDT on Tuesday the center of Tropical Depression Eleven-E was located at latitude 15.1\u00b0N and longitude 94.6\u00b0W which [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[4,2],"tags":[456,2910,1746,457,450,2905,24,1747,2904,2908,761],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/21278"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=21278"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/21278\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":21279,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/21278\/revisions\/21279"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=21278"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=21278"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=21278"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
