Tropical Cyclone Chido brought wind and rain to northern Mozambique on Sunday.\u00a0 At 7:00 a.m. EST on Sunday the center of Tropical Cyclone Chido was located at latitude 13.7\u00b0S and longitude 38.6\u00b0E which put the center about 40 miles (65 km) southeast of Marrupa, Mozambique.\u00a0 Chido was moving toward the west at 17 m.p.h. (28 km\/h).\u00a0 The maximum sustained wind speed was 60 m.p.h. (95 km\/h) and there were wind gusts to 75 m.p.h. (120 km\/h).\u00a0 The minimum surface pressure was 975 mb.<\/p>\n
Tropical Cyclone Chido was moving steadily inland over northern Mozambique on Sunday.\u00a0 Chido was weakening gradually as it moved farther inland.\u00a0 Even though Tropical Cyclone Chido was weakening, the circulation around Chido remained well organized and symmetrical.\u00a0 Bands of showers and thunderstorms were revolving around the center of of Chido’s circulation.\u00a0 Storms near the center of Chido still generated upper level divergence that pumped mass away from the tropical cyclone.\u00a0 The upper level divergence of mass was less than the inflow of mass in the lower levels of the atmosphere, and the surface pressure was increasing.<\/p>\n
Tropical Cyclone Chido will move around the northern side of a high pressure system over the Southwest Indian Ocean and southern Africa . The high pressure system will steer Chido toward the west-southwest during the next 24 hours.\u00a0 On its anticipated track, Tropical Cyclone Chido will continue to move farther inland over northern Mozambique.\u00a0 Chido will reach southern Malawi on Sunday night.<\/p>\n
Tropical Cyclone Chido will bring strong winds and heavy rain to northern Mozambique.\u00a0 Heavy rain is likely to cause floods in some locations.\u00a0 Chido could also drop heavy rain on southern Malawi.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
