{"id":21976,"date":"2025-02-10T21:59:40","date_gmt":"2025-02-10T21:59:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/?p=21976"},"modified":"2025-02-10T21:59:40","modified_gmt":"2025-02-10T21:59:40","slug":"tropical-low-develops-near-western-australia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/?p=21976","title":{"rendered":"Tropical Low Develops Near Western Australia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A Tropical Low developed near the coast of Western Australia on Monday.\u00a0 At 4:00 p.m. EST on Monday the center of the Tropical Low was located at latitude 15.7\u00b0S and longitude 120.9\u00b0E which put the center about 180 miles (290 km) north-northwest of Broome, Australia.\u00a0 The Tropical Low was moving toward the southwest at 6 m.p.h. (10 km\/h).\u00a0 The maximum sustained wind speed was 35 m.p.h. (55 km\/h) and there were wind gusts to 45 m.p.h. (75 km\/h).\u00a0 The minimum surface pressure was 997 mb.<\/p>\n<p>The circulation around a Tropical Low near the coast of Western Australia exhibited more organization on Monday.\u00a0 Thunderstorms organized in bands in the southern and western parts of the Tropical Low.\u00a0 Bands in the northern and eastern parts of the circulation still consisted primarily of showers and lower clouds.\u00a0 Storms near the center of circulation began to generate upper level divergence that started to pump mass away from the Tropical Low.<\/p>\n<p>The Tropical Low will move through an environment favorable for intensification during the next 24 hours.\u00a0 The Tropical Low will move over water where where the Sea Surface Temperatures are near 30\u00b0C.\u00a0 It will move under the northern part of an upper level ridge over Australia.\u00a0 The upper level ridge will produce easterly winds that will blow toward the top of the Tropical Low&#8217;s circulation.\u00a0 Those winds will cause some vertical wind shear.\u00a0 The vertical wind shear will inhibit intensification, but the wind shear will not be enough to prevent intensification.\u00a0 The Tropical Low is likely to intensify during the next 24 hours.<\/p>\n<p>The Tropical Low will move around the western side of a high pressure system over Australia.\u00a0 The high pressure system will steer the Tropical Low toward the south-southwest during the next 24 hours.\u00a0 The Tropical Low will move more toward the south later this week.\u00a0 On its anticipated track, the Tropical Low will move toward the coast of Western Australia.<\/p>\n<p>The Tropical Low is likely to intensify to a tropical cyclone before it reaches the coast of Western Australia.\u00a0 It will bring strong winds and locally heavy rain to parts of Western Australia later this week.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">A Watch is in effect for the portion of the coast from Cape Leveque to Port Hedland.\u00a0 The Watch includes Broome, Wallal Downs, and De Grey.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #993300;\">A Flood Watch is in effect for the De Grey River and parts of the Sandy Desert catchments.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Elsewhere over the South Indian Ocean, Tropical Cyclone Vince moved farther away from Rodrigues and Tropical Cyclone Taliah moved farther away from the Cocos Islands.<\/p>\n<p>At 4:00 p.m. EST on Monday the center of Tropical Cyclone Vince was located at latitude 25.4\u00b0S and longitude 68.6\u00b0E which put the center about 515 miles (835 km) southeast of Port Mathurin, Rodrigues.\u00a0 Vince was moving toward the south at 13 m.p.h. (21 km\/h).\u00a0 The maximum sustained wind speed was 105 m.p.h. (165 km\/h) and there were wind gusts to 125 m.p.h. (200 km\/h).\u00a0 The minimum surface pressure was 960 mb.<\/p>\n<p>At 4:00 p.m. EST on Monday the center of Tropical Cyclone Taliah was located at latitude 14.2\u00b0S and longitude 92.2\u00b0E which put the center about 330 miles (530 km) west-southwest of the Cocos Islands.\u00a0 Taliah was moving toward the west at 10 m.p.h. (16 km\/h).\u00a0 The maximum sustained wind speed was 60 m.p.h. (95 km\/h) and there were wind gusts to 75 m.p.h.
