(13 km\/h).\u00a0 The maximum sustained wind speed was 60 m.p.h. (95 km\/h) and there were wind gusts to 75 m.p.h. (120 km\/h).\u00a0 The minimum surface pressure was 989 mb.<\/p>\n
A low pressure system over the South Pacific Ocean strengthened on Sunday and the Fiji Meteorological Service designated the system as Tropical Cyclone Rae.\u00a0 The circulation around Tropical Cyclone Rae was organizing rapidly on Sunday.\u00a0 More thunderstorms developed near the center of Tropical Cyclone Rae.\u00a0 More thunderstorms also formed in the bands revolving around the center of Rae’s circulation.\u00a0 Storms near the center of Rae generated upper level divergence that pumped mass away from the tropical cyclone.\u00a0 The removal of mass caused the surface pressure to decrease.<\/p>\n
The circulation around Tropical Cyclone Rae became more symmetrical on Sunday.\u00a0 Winds to tropical storm force extended out 180 miles (290 km) from the center of Rae’s circulation.<\/p>\n
