{"id":22109,"date":"2025-03-04T14:47:37","date_gmt":"2025-03-04T14:47:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/?p=22109"},"modified":"2025-03-04T14:47:37","modified_gmt":"2025-03-04T14:47:37","slug":"tropical-cyclone-alfred-moves-toward-australia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/?p=22109","title":{"rendered":"Tropical Cyclone Alfred Moves Toward Australia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Tropical Cyclone Alfred started to move toward the east coast of Australia on Tuesday.\u00a0 The Australian Bureau of Meteorology issued a Warning for a portion of the coast.\u00a0 At 10:00 a.m. EST on Tuesday the center of Tropical Cyclone Alfred was located at latitude 27.8\u00b0S and longitude 158.2\u00b0E which put the center about 335 miles (540 km) east of Brisbane, Australia. \u00a0 Alfred was moving toward the west at 7 m.p.h. (11 km\/h).\u00a0 The maximum sustained wind speed was 65 m.p.h. (105 km\/h) and there were wind gusts to 80 m.p.h. (130 km\/h).\u00a0 The minimum surface pressure was 981 mb.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>A Warning is in effect for the portion of the coast from Double Island Point , Queensland to Grafton, New South Wales.\u00a0 The Warning includes Brisbane.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">A Watch remains in effect for the portion of the coast from Sandy Cape to Double Island Point, Queensland.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The structure of Tropical Cyclone Alfred started to change when Alfred began to move west toward the east coast of Australia.\u00a0 Thunderstorms were occurring in bands in the western and southern parts of Alfred&#8217;s circulation.\u00a0 Bands in the northern and eastern parts of Tropical Cyclone Alfred consisted primarily of showers and lower clouds.\u00a0 Storms near the center of Alfred generated upper level divergence that pumped mass away to the east of the tropical cyclone.<\/p>\n<p>The circulation around Tropical Cyclone Alfred was very large.\u00a0 Winds to tropical storm force extended out 250 miles (400 km) from the center of Alfred\u2019s circulation.<\/p>\n<p>Tropical Cyclone Alfred will move through an environment that will be marginally favorable for intensification during the next 24 hours.\u00a0 Alfred will move over water where where the Sea Surface Temperatures are near 28\u00b0C.\u00a0 However, the upper level low over eastern Australia will continue to produce northeasterly winds that will blow toward the top of Alfred\u2019s circulation.\u00a0 Those winds will continue to cause moderate vertical wind shear.\u00a0 The moderate wind shear will inhibit intensification.\u00a0 Tropical Cyclone Alfred could be close to being in equilibrium with its surrounding environment.\u00a0 The intensity of Tropical Cyclone Alfred could remain relatively constant during the next 24 hours.<\/p>\n<p>Tropical Cyclone Alfred will move around the northern side of a high pressure system that is southeast of Australia.\u00a0 The high pressure system will steer Tropical Cyclone Alfred toward the west during the next 24 hours.\u00a0 On its anticipated track, Tropical Cyclone Alfred will approach the east coast of Australia near Brisbane in 36 hours.<\/p>\n<p>Tropical Cyclone Alfred will bring strong winds and locally heavy rain to southeast Queensland and northeast New South Wales.\u00a0 Heavy rain is likely to cause flash floods in some locations.\u00a0 Alfred will also be capable of causing a storm surge of up to six feet (1.8 meters) along portions of the coast.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong>A Flood Watch is in effect for southeast Queensland.\u00a0 A Flood Watch is also in effect for the Northern Rivers and Mid-North Coast of New South Wales.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tropical Cyclone Alfred started to move toward the east coast of Australia on Tuesday.\u00a0 The Australian Bureau of Meteorology issued a Warning for a portion of the coast.\u00a0 At 10:00 a.m. EST on Tuesday the center of Tropical Cyclone Alfred was located at latitude 27.8\u00b0S and longitude 158.2\u00b0E which put the center about 335 miles [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[81,76,2],"tags":[347,3857,78,971,3884,3883,3882,970,82,348,631],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/22109"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=22109"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/22109\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":22110,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/22109\/revisions\/22110"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=22109"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=22109"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=22109"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
