{"id":22436,"date":"2025-06-17T12:27:50","date_gmt":"2025-06-17T12:27:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/?p=22436"},"modified":"2025-06-17T12:27:50","modified_gmt":"2025-06-17T12:27:50","slug":"tropical-storm-erick-forms-hurricane-watch-for-mexico","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/?p=22436","title":{"rendered":"Tropical Storm Erick Forms, Hurricane Watch for Mexico"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Tropical Storm Erick formed over the Eastern North Pacific Ocean south of Mexico early on Tuesday.\u00a0 The government of Mexico issued a Hurricane Watch for the portion of the coast.\u00a0 At 8:00 a.m. EDT on Tuesday the center of Tropical Storm Erick was located at latitude 12.1\u00b0N and longitude 93.8\u00b0W which put the center about 515 miles (830 km) southeast of Acapulco, Mexico.\u00a0 Erick was moving toward the west-northwest at 12 m.p.h. (19 km\/h).\u00a0 The maximum sustained wind speed was 40 m.p.h. (65 km\/h) and there were wind gusts to 50 m.p.h. (80 km\/h).\u00a0 The minimum surface pressure was 1005 mb.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">A Hurricane Watch was in effect for the portion of the coast from Bahias de Huatulco to Punta Maldonado, Mexico.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">A Tropical Storm Watch was in effect for the portion of the coast from Bahias de Huatulco to Salina Cruz, Mexico.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>A low pressure system over the Eastern North Pacific Ocean strengthened during Monday night and the U.S. National Hurricane Center designated the system as Tropical Storm Erick.\u00a0 The circulation around Tropical Storm Erick exhibited more organization on Tuesday morning.\u00a0 Bands of thunderstorms were revolving around the center of Erick&#8217;s circulation.\u00a0 Storms near the center of Erick generated upper level divergence that pumped mass away from the tropical storm.\u00a0 The removal of mass caused the surface pressure to decrease.<\/p>\n<p>Tropical Storm Erick will move through an environment very favorable for intensification during the next 36 hours.\u00a0 Erick will move over water where where the Sea Surface Temperatures are near 30\u00b0C.\u00a0 It will move under the middle of an upper level ridge over Central America and the adjacent part of the Eastern North Pacific Ocean.\u00a0 The upper level winds are weak near the middle of the ridge and there will be little vertical wind shear.\u00a0 Tropical Storm Erick will intensify during the next 36 hours.\u00a0 Erick could rapidly intensify to a hurricane by Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Tropical Storm Erick will move around the southwestern part of a high pressure system over Central America and southern Mexico.\u00a0 The high pressure system will steer Erick toward the northwest during the next 36 hours.\u00a0 On its anticipated track, Tropical Storm Erick will move toward the coast of southern Mexico.\u00a0 Erick could make landfall in southern Mexico between Acapulco and Punta Maldonado on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Tropical Storm Erick will be a hurricane when it makes landfall on the coast of Mexico.\u00a0 Erick will bring strong winds and heavy rain to parts of Oaxaca, Guerrero and Michoacan.\u00a0 Heavy rain will cause flash floods in some locations.\u00a0 Tropical Storm Erick could also cause a storm surge of up to 10 feet (3 meters) along the coast.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tropical Storm Erick formed over the Eastern North Pacific Ocean south of Mexico early on Tuesday.\u00a0 The government of Mexico issued a Hurricane Watch for the portion of the coast.\u00a0 At 8:00 a.m. EDT on Tuesday the center of Tropical Storm Erick was located at latitude 12.1\u00b0N and longitude 93.8\u00b0W which put the center about [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[4,2],"tags":[418,202,3737,419,1557,1720,24,1721,1747,2907,2908,1556],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/22436"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=22436"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/22436\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":22437,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/22436\/revisions\/22437"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=22436"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=22436"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=22436"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
