{"id":22528,"date":"2025-07-01T15:57:03","date_gmt":"2025-07-01T15:57:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/?p=22528"},"modified":"2025-07-01T17:14:51","modified_gmt":"2025-07-01T17:14:51","slug":"hurricane-flossie-strengthens-to-cat-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/?p=22528","title":{"rendered":"Hurricane Flossie Strengthens to Cat. 2"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hurricane Flossie strengthened to Category 2 on the Saffir-Simpson Scale as it moved over the Eastern North Pacific Ocean southwest of Mexico on Tuesday morning.\u00a0 At 11:00 a.m. EDT on Tuesday the center of Hurricane Flossie was located at latitude 17.4\u00b0N and longitude 105.9\u00b0W which put the center about 150 miles (240 km) southwest of Manzanillo, Mexico.\u00a0 Flossie was moving toward the northwest at 10 m.p.h. (16 km\/h).\u00a0 The maximum sustained wind speed was 100 m.p.h. (160 km\/h) and there were wind gusts to 120 m.p.h. (195 km\/h).\u00a0 The minimum surface pressure was 974 mb.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for the portion of the coast from Punta San Telmo to Playa Perula, Mexico.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for the portion of the coast from Playa Perula to Cabo Corrientes, Mexico.\u00a0 A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for the portion of the coast from Punta San Telmo to Zihuatanejo, Mexico.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The inner end of a rainband wrapped around the center of Hurricane Flossie on Tuesday morning.\u00a0 A circular eye was visible at the center of Flossie&#8217;s circulation on satellite images.\u00a0 The eye was surrounded by a ring of thunderstorms and the strongest winds were occurring in that ring of storms.\u00a0 Bands of showers and thunderstorms were revolving around the core of Hurricane Flossie.\u00a0 Storms near the center of Flossie generated upper level divergence that pumped mass away from the hurricane in all directions.\u00a0 The removal of mass caused the surface pressure to decrease.<\/p>\n<p>The area of hurricane force winds speeds in Hurricane Flossie increased on Tuesday.\u00a0 Winds to hurricane force extended out 25 miles (40 km) from the center of Flossie\u2019s circulation.\u00a0 Winds to tropical storm force extended out 90 miles (145 km) from the center of Hurricane Flossie.<\/p>\n<p>Hurricane Flossie will move through an environment very favorable for intensification during the next 24 hours.\u00a0 Flossie will move over water where where the Sea Surface Temperatures are near 29\u00b0C.\u00a0 It will move under the middle of an upper level ridge over Mexico and the adjacent part of the Eastern North Pacific Ocean.\u00a0 The upper level winds are weak near the middle of the ridge and there will be little vertical wind shear.\u00a0 Hurricane Flossie will intensify during the next 24 hours.\u00a0 Flossie could intensify rapidly at times.\u00a0 Hurricane Flossie is likely to strengthen to a major hurricane by Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Hurricane Flossie will move around the southwestern part of a high pressure system over Mexico.\u00a0 The high pressure system will steer the Flossie toward the northwest during the next 24 hours.\u00a0 On its anticipated track, Hurricane Flossie will move parallel to the coast of southwestern Mexico.\u00a0 Flossie is likely to move south of Baja California on Wednesday night.<\/p>\n<p>Bands in the northeastern side of Hurricane Flossie will bring gusty winds and locally heavy rain to parts of the coast of southwestern Mexico.\u00a0 The heaviest rain will fall in parts of Guerrero, Michoacan, Colima, and Jalisco.\u00a0 Heavy rain could cause flash floods in some locations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hurricane Flossie strengthened to Category 2 on the Saffir-Simpson Scale as it moved over the Eastern North Pacific Ocean southwest of Mexico on Tuesday morning.\u00a0 At 11:00 a.m. EDT on Tuesday the center of Hurricane Flossie was located at latitude 17.4\u00b0N and longitude 105.9\u00b0W which put the center about 150 miles (240 km) southwest of [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[4,2],"tags":[422,39,1039,569,423,1560,1720,3924,568,1027,24,1721,2535,2521,1685],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/22528"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=22528"}],"version-history":[{"count":3,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/22528\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":22531,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/22528\/revisions\/22531"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=22528"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=22528"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=22528"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
