{"id":22777,"date":"2025-08-04T03:07:53","date_gmt":"2025-08-04T03:07:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/?p=22777"},"modified":"2025-08-04T03:07:53","modified_gmt":"2025-08-04T03:07:53","slug":"tropical-storm-dexter-forms-east-of-north-carolina","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/?p=22777","title":{"rendered":"Tropical Storm Dexter Forms East of North Carolina"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Tropical Storm Dexter formed over the Atlantic Ocean east of North Carolina on Sunday evening.\u00a0 At 11:00 p.m. EDT on Sunday the center of Tropical Storm Dexter was located at latitude 34.3\u00b0N and longitude 69.4\u00b0W which put the center about 300 miles (480km) west-northwest of Bermuda.\u00a0 Dexter was moving toward the east-northeast at 12 m.p.h. (19 km\/h).\u00a0 The maximum sustained wind speed was 45 m.p.h. (75 km\/h) and there were wind gusts to 60 m.p.h. (95 km\/h).\u00a0 The minimum surface pressure was 1002 mb.<\/p>\n<p>A low pressure system over the Atlantic Ocean east of North Carolina strengthened on Sunday evening and the U.S. National Hurricane Center designated the system as Tropical Storm Dexter.<\/p>\n<p>The appearance of the low pressure system that became Tropical Storm Dexter began to look much more like a tropical storm on Sunday evening.\u00a0 More thunderstorms formed near the center of Dexter&#8217;s circulation.\u00a0 There was also a well developed band of thunderstorms in the eastern side of Tropical Storm Dexter.\u00a0 Bands in the western side of Dexter&#8217;s circulation still consisted primarily of showers and lower clouds.\u00a0 Storms near the center of Dexter began to generate upper level divergence that pumped mass away to the east of the tropical storm.\u00a0 The removal of mass caused the surface pressure to decrease.<\/p>\n<p>Most of the stronger winds were occurring in the eastern side of Tropical Storm Dexter.\u00a0 Winds to tropical storm force extended out 140 miles (225 km) in the eastern side of Dexter&#8217;s circulation.\u00a0 Winds to tropical storm force extended out 35 miles (55 km) in the western side of Tropical Storm Dexter.<\/p>\n<p>Tropical Storm Dexter will move through an environment somewhat favorable for intensification during the next 24 hours.\u00a0 Dexter will move over water where the Sea Surface Temperatures are near 29\u00b0C.\u00a0 It will move under the eastern side of an upper level trough over the eastern U.S.\u00a0 The upper level trough will produce southwesterly winds that will blow toward the top of Dexter&#8217;s circulation.\u00a0 Those winds will cause moderate vertical wind shear.\u00a0 The vertical wind shear will inhibit intensification, but the wind shear may not be enough to prevent intensification.\u00a0 Tropical Storm Dexter is likely to intensify on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>Tropical Storm Dexter will move around the northwestern part of a subtropical high pressure over the Atlantic Ocean.\u00a0 The high pressure system will steer Dexter toward the east-northeast during the next 24 hours.\u00a0 On its anticipated track, Tropical Storm Dexter will pass north of Bermuda during Monday night.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tropical Storm Dexter formed over the Atlantic Ocean east of North Carolina on Sunday evening.\u00a0 At 11:00 p.m. EDT on Sunday the center of Tropical Storm Dexter was located at latitude 34.3\u00b0N and longitude 69.4\u00b0W which put the center about 300 miles (480km) west-northwest of Bermuda.\u00a0 Dexter was moving toward the east-northeast at 12 m.p.h.
