{"id":23287,"date":"2025-10-04T16:11:04","date_gmt":"2025-10-04T16:11:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/?p=23287"},"modified":"2025-10-04T16:11:04","modified_gmt":"2025-10-04T16:11:04","slug":"tropical-cyclone-shakhti-intensifies-to-equivalent-of-hurricane-typhoon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/?p=23287","title":{"rendered":"Tropical Cyclone Shakhti Intensifies to Equivalent of Hurricane\/Typhoon"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Tropical Cyclone Shakhti intensified to the equivalent of a hurricane\/typhoon over the Arabian Sea south of Pakistan on Saturday.\u00a0 At 11:00 a.m. EDT on Saturday the center of Tropical Cyclone Shakhti was located at latitude 21.2\u00b0N and longitude 63.1\u00b0E which put the center about 330 miles (535 km) southwest of Karachi, Pakistan.\u00a0 Shakhti was moving toward the west-southwest at 9 m.p.h. (15 km\/h).\u00a0 The maximum sustained wind speed was 75 m.p.h. (120 km\/h) and there were wind gusts to 90 m.p.h. (145 km\/h).\u00a0 The minimum surface pressure was 982 mb.<\/p>\n<p>Tropical Cyclone Shankhti intensified to the equivalent of a hurricane\/typhoon over the Arabian Sea south of Pakistan on Saturday.\u00a0 The inner end of a rainband wrapped around the center of Shakhti&#8217;s circulation.\u00a0 A small eye was visible at the center of Tropical Cyclone Shakhti.\u00a0 The eye was surrounded by a thin ring of thunderstorms and the strongest winds were in that ring of storms.\u00a0 Bands of showers and thunderstorms were revolving around the center of Shakhti&#8217;s circulation.\u00a0 Storms near the center of Shakhti generated upper level divergence that pumped mass away from the tropical cyclone.\u00a0 The removal of mass caused the surface pressure to decrease.<\/p>\n<p>The strongest winds were occurring in the southern part of Tropical Cyclone Shakhti.\u00a0 Winds to hurricane\/typhoon force extended out 30 miles (50 km) on the southern side of Shakhti&#8217;s circulation.\u00a0 Winds to tropical storm force extended out 90 miles (145 km) from the center of Tropical Cyclone Shakhti.<\/p>\n<p>Tropical Cyclone Shakhti will move through an environment somewhat favorable for intensification during the next 24 hours.\u00a0 Shakhti will move over water where the Sea Surface Temperatures are near 28\u00b0C.\u00a0 It will move under the southern part of an upper level ridge that is over Pakistan and the northern Arabian Sea.\u00a0 The upper level ridge will produce easterly winds that will blow toward the top of Shakhti&#8217;s circulation.\u00a0 Those winds will cause some vertical wind shear, but the wind shear will not be enough to prevent intensification.\u00a0 However, drier air over southern Asia could get pulled into the northern side of Tropical Cyclone Shakhti.\u00a0 The drier air will also inhibit intensification.\u00a0 Tropical Cyclone Shakhti could intensify during the next 24 hours if the drier air stays around the northern periphery of its circulation.<\/p>\n<p>Tropical Cyclone Shakhti will move around the southern side of a high pressure system over Pakistan.\u00a0 The high pressure system will steer Shakhti toward the west-southwest during the next 24 hours.\u00a0 On its anticipated track, Tropical Cyclone Shakhti will stay south of Pakistan during the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tropical Cyclone Shakhti intensified to the equivalent of a hurricane\/typhoon over the Arabian Sea south of Pakistan on Saturday.\u00a0 At 11:00 a.m. EDT on Saturday the center of Tropical Cyclone Shakhti was located at latitude 21.2\u00b0N and longitude 63.1\u00b0E which put the center about 330 miles (535 km) southwest of Karachi, Pakistan.\u00a0 Shakhti was moving [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[48,2],"tags":[1009,57,689,1514,55,3998,3997],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/23287"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=23287"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/23287\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":23288,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/23287\/revisions\/23288"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=23287"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=23287"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=23287"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
