{"id":23609,"date":"2025-11-19T14:11:17","date_gmt":"2025-11-19T14:11:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/?p=23609"},"modified":"2025-11-19T14:11:17","modified_gmt":"2025-11-19T14:11:17","slug":"tropical-cyclone-fina-prompts-warning-for-north-coast-of-australia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/?p=23609","title":{"rendered":"Tropical Cyclone Fina Prompts Warning for North Coast of Australia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The risk posed by Tropical Cyclone Fina prompted the Australia Bureau of Meteorology to issue warnings and watches for portions of the northern coast of Australia on Tuesday night.\u00a0 At 4:00 a.m. EST on Wednesday the center of Tropical Cyclone Fina was located at latitude 9.7\u00b0S and longitude 132.8\u00b0E which put the center about 225 miles (365 km) north-northeast of Darwin, Australia and about 105 miles (165 km) north of Minjilang, Australia.\u00a0 Fina was moving toward the east at 5 m.p.h. (8 km\/h).\u00a0 The maximum sustained wind speed was 65 m.p.h. (105 km\/h) and there were wind gusts to 80 m.p.h. (130 km\/h).\u00a0 The minimum surface pressure was 987 mb.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">A Warning is in effect for the portion of the coast from Cape Don to Warruwi, Australia including the Cobourg Peninsula and Minjilang.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">A Watch is in effect for the Tiwi Islands.\u00a0 A Watch is also in effect for the portion of the coast from Maningrida to Milingimbi, Australia.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Tropical Cyclone Fina strengthened as it moved over the Arafura Sea north of Australia on Tuesday night.\u00a0 Thunderstorms continued to develop near the center of Fina&#8217;s circulation.\u00a0 Thunderstorms were also occurring in bands revolving around the center of Tropical Cyclone Fina.\u00a0 Storms near the center of Fina\u2019s circulation generated upper level divergence that pumped mass away from the tropical cyclone.\u00a0 The removal of mass caused the surface pressure to decrease.<\/p>\n<p>The circulation around Tropical Cyclone Fina was small.\u00a0 Winds to tropical storm force extended out 50 miles (80 km) from the center of Fina\u2019s circulation.<\/p>\n<p>Tropical Cyclone Fina will move through an environment favorable for intensification during the next 24 hours.\u00a0 Fina will move over water where the Sea Surface Temperatures are near 30\u00b0C.\u00a0 It will move though a region where the upper level winds are weak and there will be little vertical wind shear.\u00a0 Tropical Cyclone Fina will intensify during the next 24 hours.\u00a0 Fina could strengthen to the equivalent of a hurricane\/typhoon.<\/p>\n<p>Tropical Cyclone Fina will move around the southern side of a narrow high pressure system that is near the Equator.\u00a0 The high pressure system will steer Fina slowly toward the east during the next 24 hours.\u00a0 On its anticipated track, Tropical Cyclone Fina will move parallel to the northern coast of Australia.\u00a0 Fina will start to move south toward the coast of the Northern Territory of Australia on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Tropical Cyclone Fina is likely to reach the northern coast of the Northern Territory of Australia within 36 hours.\u00a0 Fina will bring strong winds and heavy rain to the coast.\u00a0 Heavy rain is likely to cause floods in some locations.\u00a0 Tropical Cyclone Fina could also cause a storm surge of up to 7 feet (2 meters) along parts of the coast of the Northern Territory.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #993300;\">A Flood Watch is in effect for areas across the northwest Top End of Australia.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The risk posed by Tropical Cyclone Fina prompted the Australia Bureau of Meteorology to issue warnings and watches for portions of the northern coast of Australia on Tuesday night.\u00a0 At 4:00 a.m. EST on Wednesday the center of Tropical Cyclone Fina was located at latitude 9.7\u00b0S and longitude 132.8\u00b0E which put the center about 225 [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[81,48,2],"tags":[622,982,78,1906,4034,975,4029,4032,4033,4030,83,623,4028,4031],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/23609"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=23609"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/23609\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":23610,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/23609\/revisions\/23610"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=23609"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=23609"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=23609"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
