(19 km\/h).\u00a0 The maximum sustained wind speed was 85 m.p.h. (135 km\/h) and there were wind gusts to 105 m.p.h. (165 km\/h).\u00a0 The minimum surface pressure was 973 mb.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">The Australian Bureau of Meteorology issued a Warning that was in effect for the portion of the coast of Western Australia from Whim Creek to Coral Bay.\u00a0 The Warning included Karratha, Dampier, Onslow, and Exmouth.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">A Watch was in effect for the portion of the coast of Western Australia from Coral Bay to Carnarvon.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Tropical Cyclone Mitchell intensified to the equivalent of a hurricane\/typhoon on Saturday morning.\u00a0 The inner end of a rainband wrapped around the center of Michell&#8217;s circulation.\u00a0 An eye appeared to be forming at the center of Tropical Cyclone Mitchell.\u00a0 The eye was surrounded by a ring of thunderstorms and the strongest winds were occurring that ring of storms.\u00a0 Bands of showers and thunderstorms were revolving around the center of Mitchell&#8217;s circulation.\u00a0 Storms near the center of Mitchell generated upper level divergence that pumped mass away from the tropical cyclone.\u00a0 The removal of mass caused the surface pressure to decrease.<\/p>\n<p>The size of the circulation around Tropical Cyclone Mitchell increased when Mitchell intensified.\u00a0 Winds to hurricane\/typhoon force extended out 40 miles (65 km) from the center of Mitchell&#8217;s circulation.\u00a0 Winds to tropical storm force extended out 100 miles (175 km) from the center of Tropical Cyclone Mitchell.<\/p>\n<p>Tropical Cyclone Mitchell will move through an environment very favorable for intensification during the next 24 hours.\u00a0 Mitchell will then move over water where the Sea Surface Temperatures are near 29\u00b0C.\u00a0 It will move through a region where the upper level winds are weak and there will be little vertical wind shear.\u00a0 Tropical Cyclone Mitchell will intensify during the next 24 hours. .<\/p>\n<p>Tropical Cyclone Mitchell will move around the northwestern part of a high pressure system that is over Australia.\u00a0 The high pressure system will steer Mitchell toward the southwest during the next 24 hours.\u00a0 On its anticipated track, Tropical Cyclone Mitchell will make landfall in the Exmouth Gulf in less than 24 hours.<\/p>\n<p>The center of Tropical Cyclone Mitchell is likely to make landfall on the coast of Western Australia between Onslow and Exmouth.\u00a0 Mitchell will bring strong winds and heavy rain to locations near the Exmouth Gulf.\u00a0 Heavy rain is likely to cause floods in some locations.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong>Flood Watches are in effect for the Gascoyne River, the Ashburton River, the Fortescue River, the Fitzroy River, the Greenough River, the Murchison River, the Wooramel River, the Pilbara Coastal Rivers, and the Yarra Yarra Lakes District.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tropical Cyclone Mitchell intensified to the equivalent of a hurricane\/typhoon as it moved near the coast of Western Australia on Saturday morning.\u00a0 At 10:00 a.m. EST on Saturday the center of Tropical Cyclone Mitchell was located at latitude 20.3\u00b0S and longitude 116.4\u00b0E which put the center about 50 miles (80 km) north-northwest of Karratha, Australia.\u00a0 [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[81,48,2],"tags":[357,3852,3566,3569,1928,2462,2856,3838,3855,4104,1467,4102,4105,1927,1935,358,4101,94,1936,4106,4107],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/24008"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=24008"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/24008\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":24009,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/24008\/revisions\/24009"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=24008"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=24008"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=24008"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
