{"id":24198,"date":"2026-03-25T03:46:18","date_gmt":"2026-03-25T03:46:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/?p=24198"},"modified":"2026-03-25T03:46:18","modified_gmt":"2026-03-25T03:46:18","slug":"tropical-cyclone-narelle-intensifies-again","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/?p=24198","title":{"rendered":"Tropical Cyclone Narelle Intensifies Again"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Tropical Cyclone Narelle intensified again on Tuesday as it moved over the South Indian Ocean north of Western Australia.\u00a0 At 11:00 p.m. EDT on Tuesday the center of Tropical Cyclone Narelle was located at latitude 17.6\u00b0S and longitude 119.5\u00b0E which put the center about 180 miles (290 km) north-northeast of Port Hedland, Australia.\u00a0 Narelle was moving toward the west-southwest at 17 m.p.h. (28 km\/h).\u00a0 The maximum sustained wind speed was 65 m.p.h. (105 km\/h) and there were wind gusts to 80 m.p.h. (130 km\/h).\u00a0 The minimum surface pressure was 987 mb.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">The Australian Bureau of Meteorology issued a Warning that is in effect for the portion of the coast from Bidyadanga to Onslow.\u00a0 That Warning includes Port Hedland and Karratha.\u00a0 A Warning remains in effect for the portion of the coast from Cape Leveque to Beagle Bay.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">A Watch is in effect for the portion of the coast from Onslow to Carnarvon.\u00a0 The Watch includes Exmouth and Coral Bay.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Tropical Cyclone Narelle started to intensify again on Tuesday as it moved north of the coast of Western Australia.\u00a0 The inner end of a rainband wrapped around the center of Narelle&#8217;s circulation.\u00a0 A new eye appeared to be forming at the center of Tropical Cyclone Narelle.\u00a0 Bands of showers and thunderstorms were revolving around the center of Narelle&#8217;s circulation.\u00a0 Storms near the center of Narelle began to generate more upper level divergence that pumped mass away from the tropical cyclone.\u00a0 The removal of more mass caused the surface pressure to decrease.<\/p>\n<p>The distribution of wind speeds around Tropical Cyclone Narelle became more symmetrical as more of the circulation moved back over water.\u00a0 Winds to tropical storm force extended out 115 miles (185 km) from the center of Narelle&#8217;s circulation.<\/p>\n<p>ropical Cyclone Narelle will move into an environment favorable for intensification during the next 24 hours.\u00a0 Narelle will move over water where the Sea Surface Temperatures are near 29\u00b0C.\u00a0 It will move under the northern part of an upper level ridge that is over Western Australia.\u00a0 The upper level ridge will produce easterly winds that will blow toward the top of Narelle\u2019s circulation.\u00a0 Those winds will cause some vertical wind shear, but the wind shear will not be enough to prevent intensification.\u00a0 Tropical Cyclone Narelle will intensify during the next 24 hours.\u00a0 Narelle is likely to strengthen back to the equivalent of a hurricane\/typhoon on Wednesday.\u00a0 Tropical Cyclone Narelle could intensify to the equivalent of a major hurricane later this week.<\/p>\n<p>Tropical Cyclone Narelle will move around the northern side of a high pressure system that is over Australia.\u00a0 The high pressure system will steer Narelle toward the west-southwest during the next 24 hours.\u00a0 On its anticipated track, Tropical Cyclone Narelle will move parellel to the coast of Western Australia during the next day or so.\u00a0 Narelle will move toward the south on Thursday when it moves around the western end of the high pressure system.<\/p>\n<p>Bands in the southern part of Tropical Cyclone Narelle will bring gusty winds and locally heavy rain to the northern coast of Western Australia.\u00a0 Heavy rain could cause flash floods in some locations.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tropical Cyclone Narelle intensified again on Tuesday as it moved over the South Indian Ocean north of Western Australia.\u00a0 At 11:00 p.m. EDT on Tuesday the center of Tropical Cyclone Narelle was located at latitude 17.6\u00b0S and longitude 119.5\u00b0E which put the center about 180 miles (290 km) north-northeast of Port Hedland, Australia.\u00a0 Narelle was [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[81,48,2],"tags":[1508,78,1912,2859,1892,3566,3569,2462,1467,4128,1927,979,1507,4127,94],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/24198"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=24198"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/24198\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":24199,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/24198\/revisions\/24199"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=24198"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=24198"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=24198"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
