Typhoon Sinlaku continued to bring strong winds and heavy rain to the Northern Marianas on Wednesday.\u00a0 At 5:00 a.m. EDT on Wednesday the center of Typhoon Sinlaku was located at latitude 16.2\u00b0N and longitude 144.8\u00b0E which put the center about 80 miles (130 km) northwest of Saipan.\u00a0 Sinlaku was moving toward the northwest at 6 m.p.h. (10 km\/h).\u00a0 The maximum sustained wind speed was 125 m.p.h. (200 km\/h) and there were wind gusts to 155 m.p.h. (250 km\/h).\u00a0 The minimum surface pressure was 944 mb.<\/p>\n
Typhoon Warnings remain in effect for Rota, Tinian, Saipan, Pagan, Alamagan, and Agrihan.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n A Tropical Storm Warning remains in effect for Guam.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n A Typhoon Watch also remains in effect for Guam.<\/span><\/p>\n Typhoon Sinlaku completed an eyewall replacement cycle on Wednesday.\u00a0 A circular eye with a diameter of 35 miles (55 km) was present at the\u00a0 center of Sinlaku’s circulation.\u00a0 Bands of showers and thunderstorms were revolving around the core of Typhoon Sinlaku.\u00a0 Storms near the core of Sinlaku generated upper level divergence that pumped mass away from the typhoon.\u00a0 The removal of mass in the upper levels of the atmosphere was less than the convergence of mass in the lower levels.\u00a0 So, the surface pressure was continuing to increase gradually.<\/p>\n The circulation around Typhoon Sinlaku was large.\u00a0 Winds to typhoon force extended out 75 miles (120 km) from the center of Sinlaku\u2019s circulation.\u00a0 Winds to tropical storm force extended out 275 miles (445 km) from the center of Typhoon Sinlaku.<\/p>\n The Hurricane Intensity Index (HII) for Typhoon Sinlaku is 23.6.\u00a0 The Hurricane Size Index (HSI) is 28.3 and the Hurricane Wind Intensity Size Index (HWISI) is 51.9.\u00a0 Typhoon Sinlaku is similar in size and intensity to Hurricane Wilma when Wilma hit South Florida in 2005.<\/p>\n A weather station at the Guam International Airport recently reported a sustained wind speed of 28 m.p.h. (45 km\/h) and a wind gust of 45 m.p.h.
