{"id":24512,"date":"2026-06-10T21:15:12","date_gmt":"2026-06-10T21:15:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/?p=24512"},"modified":"2026-06-10T21:15:12","modified_gmt":"2026-06-10T21:15:12","slug":"cristina-weakens-to-a-tropical-depression","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/?p=24512","title":{"rendered":"Cristina Weakens to a Tropical Depression"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Former Tropical Storm Cristina weakened to a tropical depression over the Eastern North Pacific Ocean south of El Salvador on Wednesday afternoon.\u00a0 At 5:00 p.m. EDT on Wednesday the center of Tropical Depression Cristina was located at latitude 12.6\u00b0N and longitude 88.9\u00b0W which put the center about 80 miles (130 km) south-southeast of San Salvador, El Salvador.\u00a0 Cristina was moving toward the northwest at 5 m.p.h. (8 km\/h).\u00a0 The maximum sustained wind speed was 35 m.p.h. (55 km\/h) and there were wind gusts to 45 m.p.h. (75 km\/h).\u00a0 The minimum surface pressure was 1007 mb.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for the entire coast of El Salvador.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Former Tropical Storm Cristina weakened to a tropical depression south of El Salvador on Wednesday afternoon.\u00a0 An upper level ridge over Mexico was producing northerly winds that were blowing toward the top of Cristina&#8217;s circulation.\u00a0 Those winds were causing moderate vertical wind shear.\u00a0 The vertical wind shear caused some of the thunderstorms in former Tropical Storm Cristina to dissipate.\u00a0 The wind shear also caused Cristina to weaken to a tropical depression.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the thunderstorms near the center of Tropical Depression Cristina dissipated on Wednesday afternoon.\u00a0 Thunderstorms were still occurring in a band southwest of the center of Cristina&#8217;s circulation.\u00a0 Other thunderstorms were still occurring in a band in the northeastern part of Tropical Depression Cristina.\u00a0 The thunderstorms in Cristina generated some upper level divergence that pumped mass away to the west of the tropical depression.\u00a0 The removal of mass in the upper levels of the atmosphere was nearly equal to the convergence of mass in the lower levels.\u00a0 So, the surface pressure did not change much on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Tropical Depression Cristina will move through an environment somewhat favorable for intensification during the next 12 hours.\u00a0 Cristina will move over water where the Sea Surface Temperatures are near 29\u00b0C.\u00a0 The upper level ridge that is over Mexico will continue to produce northerly winds that will blow toward the top of Cristina\u2019s circulation.\u00a0 Those winds will continue to cause moderate vertical wind shear.\u00a0 The moderate vertical wind shear will inhibit intensification.\u00a0 The intensity of Tropical Depression Cristina is not likely to change much during the next 12 hours.<\/p>\n<p>Tropical Depression Cristina will move around the western part of a high pressure system that is over the Northwestern Caribbean Sea.\u00a0 The high pressure system will steer Cristina toward the northwest during the next 24 hours.\u00a0 On its anticipated track, Tropical Depression Cristina will reach the coast of El Salvador during Wednesday night.<\/p>\n<p>Tropical Depression Cristina will bring gusty winds and locally heavy rain to El Salvador and to southern Guatemala.\u00a0 Heavy rain could cause flash floods in some locations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Former Tropical Storm Cristina weakened to a tropical depression over the Eastern North Pacific Ocean south of El Salvador on Wednesday afternoon.\u00a0 At 5:00 p.m. EDT on Wednesday the center of Tropical Depression Cristina was located at latitude 12.6\u00b0N and longitude 88.9\u00b0W which put the center about 80 miles (130 km) south-southeast of San Salvador, [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[4,2],"tags":[409,2069,579,410,450,2926,4164],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/24512"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=24512"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/24512\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":24513,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/24512\/revisions\/24513"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=24512"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=24512"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=24512"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
