Tropical Depression 09W formed over the Western North Pacific Ocean east-southeast of the Marianas on Tuesday evening.\u00a0 At 11:00 p.m. EDT on Tuesday the center of Tropical Depression 09W was located at latitude 8.9\u00b0N and longitude 162.9\u00b0E which put the center about 175 miles (280 km) east-southeast of Ujelang.\u00a0 The tropical depression was moving toward the west at 12 m.p.h. (19 km\/h).\u00a0 The maximum sustained wind speed was 35 m.p.h. (55 km\/h) and there were wind gusts to 45 m.p.h. (75 km\/h).\u00a0 The minimum surface pressure was 1003 mb.<\/p>\n
A low pressure system over the Western North Pacific Ocean east-southeast of the Marianas strengthened on Tuesday evening.\u00a0 Both the Japan Meteorological Agency and the U.S. Joint Typhoon Warning Center classified the system as a tropical depression.<\/p>\n
More thunderstorms formed near the center of Tropical Depression 09W on Tuesday evening.\u00a0 Thunderstorms were also developing in bands in the northern and western parts of the tropical depression.\u00a0 Bands in the southern and eastern parts of Tropical Depression consisted primarily of showers and lower clouds.\u00a0 Storms near the center of circulation began to generate upper level divergence that pumped mass away to the west of the tropical depression.\u00a0 The removal of mass caused the surface pressure to start to decrease.<\/p>\n
Tropical Depression 09W will move through an environment favorable for intensification during the next 24 hours.\u00a0 The tropical depression will move over water where the Sea Surface Temperatures are near 30\u00b0C.\u00a0 It will move through a region where the upper level winds are weak and there will be little vertical wind shear.\u00a0 Tropical Depression 09W will intensify to a tropical storm during the next 24 hours.\u00a0 It is likely to strengthen to a typhoon by the end of the week.<\/p>\n
Tropical Depression 09W will move around the southern part of a high pressure system that is over the Western North Pacific Ocean.\u00a0 The high pressure system will steer the tropical depression toward the west-northwest during the next 24 hours.\u00a0 On its anticipated track, the center of Tropical Depression 09W will pass near Ujelang in 12 hours.\u00a0 Tropical Depression 09W could approach the Marianas in four days.\u00a0 It is likely to be a typhoon when it approaches the Marianas.<\/p>\n
