{"id":24728,"date":"2026-07-19T17:31:39","date_gmt":"2026-07-19T17:31:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/?p=24728"},"modified":"2026-07-19T17:31:39","modified_gmt":"2026-07-19T17:31:39","slug":"tropical-depression-forms-over-eastern-gulf-of-mexico","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/?p=24728","title":{"rendered":"Tropical Depression Forms over Eastern Gulf of Mexico"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Tropical Depression Two formed over the eastern Gulf of Mexico on Sunday morning.\u00a0 The U.S. National Hurricane Center issued a Tropical Storm Watch for a portion of the coast of Northwest Florida.\u00a0 At 11:00 a.m. EDT on Sunday the center of Tropical Depression Two was located at latitude 28.0\u00b0N and longitude 85.3\u00b0W which put the center about 155 miles (250 km) south of Panama City, Florida.\u00a0 The tropical depression was moving toward the north-northwest at 2 m.p.h. (3 km\/h).\u00a0 The maximum sustained wind speed was 30 m.p.h. (50 km\/h) and there were wind gusts to 40 m.p.h. (65 km\/h).\u00a0 The minimum surface pressure was 1011 mb.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">A Tropical Storm Watch was in effect for a portion of the coast of Northwest Florida from the Ochlockonee River to the border with Alabama.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>A low pressure system over the northeastern Gulf of Mexico exhibited more organization on Sunday morning and the U.S. National Hurricane Center designated the system as Tropical Depression Two.<\/p>\n<p>Tropical Depression Two was designated when the circulation around a low pressure system previously designated at Invest 91L exhibited more organization.\u00a0 A distinct low level of circulation was observed on visible satellite images.\u00a0 Thunderstorms began to form near the low level center.\u00a0 Other thunderstorms also were developing in bands revolving around the center of Tropical Depression Two.<\/p>\n<p>Tropical Depression Two will move through an environment that will be somewhat favorable for intensification during the next 24 hours.\u00a0 The tropical depression will move over water where the Sea Surface Temperatures are near 30\u00b0C.\u00a0 It will move under northwestern part of an upper level low that is near the Florida Peninsula.\u00a0 The upper low will produce northeasterly winds that will blow across the top of the tropical depression.\u00a0 Those winds will cause moderate vertical wind shear.\u00a0 The vertical wind shear will inhibit intensification, but the wind shear may not be strong enough to prevent intensification.\u00a0 Tropical Depression Two could intensify gradually during the next 24 hours.\u00a0 It could strengthen to a tropical storm.<\/p>\n<p>Tropical Depression Two will move around the southwestern part of a high pressure system that is over the western Atlantic Ocean.\u00a0 The high pressure system will steer the tropical depression slowly toward the northwest during the next 24 hours.\u00a0 On its anticipated track, Tropical Depression Two will move slowly toward the northern Gulf Coast.<\/p>\n<p>Tropical Depression Two could bring gusty winds and locally heavy rain to the northern Gulf Coast during the upcoming week.\u00a0 Heavy rain could cause floods in some locations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tropical Depression Two formed over the eastern Gulf of Mexico on Sunday morning.\u00a0 The U.S. National Hurricane Center issued a Tropical Storm Watch for a portion of the coast of Northwest Florida.\u00a0 At 11:00 a.m. EDT on Sunday the center of Tropical Depression Two was located at latitude 28.0\u00b0N and longitude 85.3\u00b0W which put the [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[3,2],"tags":[378,377,384,51,3157,1018,1065],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/24728"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=24728"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/24728\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":24729,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/24728\/revisions\/24729"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=24728"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=24728"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=24728"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
