(24 km\/h).\u00a0 The maximum sustained wind speed was 80 m.p.h. (130 km\/h) and there were wind gusts to 95 m.p.h. (150 km\/h).\u00a0 The minimum surface pressure was 987 mb.<\/p>\n<p>Former Tropical Storm Genevieve strengthened to a hurricane on Saturday.\u00a0 The inner end of a rainband wrapped around the eastern and northern sides of the center of Genevieve&#8217;s circulation.\u00a0 An eye appeared to be forming at the center of Hurricane Genevieve.\u00a0 Bands of showers and thunderstorms were revolving around the center of Genevieve&#8217;s circulation.\u00a0 Storms near the center of Genevieve generated upper level divergence that pumped mass away from the hurricane.\u00a0 The removal of mass caused the surface pressure to decrease.<\/p>\n<p>The strongest winds were occurring in the section of the rainband that wrapped around the northeastern part of the center of Hurricane Genevieve.\u00a0 Winds to hurricane force extended out 20 miles in the northeastern quadrant of Genevieve&#8217;s circulation.\u00a0 Winds to tropical storm force extended out 125 miles (200 km) from the center of Hurricane Genevieve.<\/p>\n<p>Hurricane Genevieve will move through an environment favorable for intensification during the next 24 hours.\u00a0 Genevieve will move over water where the Sea Surface Temperatures are near 29\u00b0C.\u00a0 It will move through a region where the upper level winds are weak and there will be little vertical wind shear.\u00a0 Hurricane Genevieve will intensify during the next 24 hours.\u00a0 Genevieve could intensify rapidly at times.\u00a0 Genevieve is likely to strengthen to a major hurricane by early next week.<\/p>\n<p>Hurricane Genevieve will move around the southwestern part of a high pressure system that is over the Southwest U.S.\u00a0 The high pressure system will steer Genevieve toward the northwest during the next 24 hours.\u00a0 On its anticipated track, Hurricane Genevieve will move parallel to the west coast of Mexico.<\/p>\n<p>Elsewhere, Hurricane Fausto was nearing the Central Pacific Ocean.\u00a0 At 11:00 p.m. EDT on Saturday the center of Hurricane Fausto was located at latitude 19.5\u00b0N and longitude 138.8\u00b0W which put the center about 1060 miles (1702 km) east of Hilo, Hawaii.\u00a0 Fausto was moving toward the west at 13 m.p.h. (21 km\/h).\u00a0 The maximum sustained wind speed was 100 m.p.h. (160 km\/h) and there were wind gusts to 120 m.p.h.
