{"id":25064,"date":"2026-08-27T16:58:41","date_gmt":"2026-08-27T16:58:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/?p=25064"},"modified":"2026-08-27T16:58:41","modified_gmt":"2026-08-27T16:58:41","slug":"tropical-storm-dolly-forms-over-atlantic","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/?p=25064","title":{"rendered":"Tropical Storm Dolly Forms over Atlantic"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Tropical Storm Dolly formed over the Atlantic Ocean midway between Africa and the Lesser Antilles on Thursday morning.\u00a0 At 11:00 a.m. EDT on Thursday the center of Tropical Storm Dolly was located at latitude 13.6\u00b0N and longitude 38.7\u00b0W which put the center about 1555 miles (2505 km) east of the Lesser Antilles.\u00a0 Dolly was moving toward the west at 24 m.p.h. (39 km\/h). The maximum sustained wind speed was 40 m.p.h. (65 km\/h) and there were wind gusts to 50 m.p.h. (80 km\/h).\u00a0 The minimum surface pressure was 1007 mb.<\/p>\n<p>A low pressure system over the Atlantic Ocean midway between Africa and the Lesser Antilles strengthened on Thursday morning and the U.S. National Hurricane Center designated the system as Tropical Storm Dolly.<\/p>\n<p>The distribution of thunderstorms in Tropical Storm Dolly was asymmetrical.\u00a0 Thunderstorms were occurring in bands in the southern half of Dolly&#8217;s circulation.\u00a0 Bands in the northern side of Tropical Storm Dolly consisted primarily of showers and lower clouds.\u00a0 Storms near the center of Dolly generated upper level divergence that pumped mass away to the west of the tropical storm.\u00a0 The removal of mass caused the surface pressure to decrease.<\/p>\n<p>The strongest winds were occurring in the northeastern part of Tropical Storm Dolly.\u00a0 Winds to tropical storm force extended out 60 miles (95 km) in the northeastern quadrant of Dolly&#8217;s circulation.\u00a0 The winds in the other parts of Tropical Storm Dolly were blowing at less than tropical storm force.<\/p>\n<p>Tropical Storm Dolly will move through an environment that will be marginally favorable for intensification during the next 24 hours.\u00a0 Dolly will move over water where the Sea Surface Temperatures are near 28\u00b0C.\u00a0 It will move under the eastern side of a small upper level ridge.\u00a0 The upper level ridge will produce northerly winds that will blow toward the top of Dolly&#8217;s circulation.\u00a0 Since the winds in the lower levels of the atmosphere are blowing from the east, there will moderate to strong vertical wind shear.\u00a0 Tropical Storm Dolly could intensify a little during the next 24 hours in spite of the moderate to strong vertical wind shear.\u00a0 The vertical wind shear is expected to increase during the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>Tropical Storm Dolly will move around the southern side of a high pressure system over the Atlantic Ocean.\u00a0 The high pressure system will steer Dolly quickly toward the west during the next 24 hours.\u00a0 On its anticipated track, Tropical Storm Dolly will move toward the Leeward Islands.\u00a0 Dolly could approach the Northern Leeward Islands by Saturday night.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tropical Storm Dolly formed over the Atlantic Ocean midway between Africa and the Lesser Antilles on Thursday morning.\u00a0 At 11:00 a.m. EDT on Thursday the center of Tropical Storm Dolly was located at latitude 13.6\u00b0N and longitude 38.7\u00b0W which put the center about 1555 miles (2505 km) east of the Lesser Antilles.\u00a0 Dolly was moving [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[3,2],"tags":[395,393,2063,140,2062],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/25064"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=25064"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/25064\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":25065,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/25064\/revisions\/25065"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=25064"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=25064"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=25064"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
