{"id":25213,"date":"2026-09-14T03:03:36","date_gmt":"2026-09-14T03:03:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/?p=25213"},"modified":"2026-09-14T03:03:36","modified_gmt":"2026-09-14T03:03:36","slug":"tropical-storm-norbert-still-moving-west","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/?p=25213","title":{"rendered":"Tropical Storm Norbert Still Moving West"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Tropical Storm Norbert was still moving west toward the Central North Pacific Ocean on Sunday evening.\u00a0 At 11:00 p.m. EDT on Sunday the center of Tropical Storm Norbert was located at latitude 19.2\u00b0N and longitude 135.3\u00b0W which put the center about 1290 miles (2075 km) east of Hilo, Hawaii.\u00a0 Norbert was moving toward the west-northwest at 14 m.p.h. (22 km\/h).\u00a0 The maximum sustained wind speed was 45 m.p.h. (75 km\/h) and there were wind gusts to 60 m.p.h. (95 km\/h).\u00a0 The minimum surface pressure was 1002 mb.<\/p>\n<p>Tropical Storm Norbert did not change much on Sunday.\u00a0 The distribution of thunderstorms in Norbert continued to be asymmetrical.\u00a0 Thunderstorms were still occurring in bands in the eastern side of Norbert\u2019s circulation.\u00a0 Bands in the western half of Tropical Storm Norbert consisted primarily of showers and lower clouds.\u00a0 Storms near the center of Norbert still generated some upper level divergence that pumped mass away from the tropical storm.\u00a0 The removal of mass in the upper levels was nearly equal to the convergence of mass in the lower levels of the atmosphere.\u00a0 So, the surface pressure remained steady on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>The asymmetrical distribution of thunderstorms in Tropical Storm Norbert also affected the distribution of wind speeds.\u00a0 Winds to tropical storm force extended out 105 miles (165 km) in the northern half of Norbert\u2019s circulation.\u00a0 Winds to tropical storm force only extended out 35 miles (55 km) in the southern side of Tropical Storm Norbert.<\/p>\n<p>Tropical Storm Norbert will move through an environment that will be mostly unfavorable for intensification during the next 24 hours.\u00a0 Norbert will move over water where the Sea Surface Temperatures are near 26\u00b0C.\u00a0 An upper level low that is northeast of Hawaii will produce southwesterly winds that will blow toward the top of Norbert&#8217;s circulation.\u00a0 Those winds will continue to cause moderate vertical wind shear.\u00a0 Norbert will also continue to move through the mass of drier air that is east of Hawaii.\u00a0 Tropical Storm Norbert is unlikely to intensify on Monday because of the moderate vertical wind shear and the drier air.<\/p>\n<p>Tropical Storm Norbert will move around the southern part of a high pressure system that is over the Eastern North Pacific Ocean.\u00a0 The high pressure system will steer Norbert toward the west during the next 24 hours,\u00a0 On its anticipated track, Tropical Storm Norbert will still be far to the east of Hawaii on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>Elsewhere, Tropical Depression Fifteen-E formed southwest of Baja California.<\/p>\n<p>At 11:00 p.m. EDT on Sunday the center of Tropical Depression Fifteen-E was located at latitude 17.0\u00b0N and longitude 118.3\u00b0W which put the center about 680 miles (1095 km) southwest of the southern tip of Baja California.\u00a0 The tropical depression was moving toward the west at 10 m.p.h. (16 km\/h).\u00a0 The maximum sustained wind speed was 35 m.p.h. (55 km\/h) and there were wind gusts to 45 m.p.h.
