{"id":25470,"date":"2026-10-08T12:56:04","date_gmt":"2026-10-08T12:56:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/?p=25470"},"modified":"2026-10-08T12:56:04","modified_gmt":"2026-10-08T12:56:04","slug":"isaias-strengthens-to-a-hurricane","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/?p=25470","title":{"rendered":"Isaias Strengthens to a Hurricane"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Former Tropical Storm Isaias strengthened to a hurricane as it moved over the central Gulf of Mexico on Wednesday night.\u00a0 At 8:00 a.m. EDT on Thursday the center of Hurricane Isaias was located at latitude 23.7\u00b0N and longitude 90.6\u00b0W which put the center about 385 miles (620 km) south-southwest of the Mouth of the Mississippi River.\u00a0 Isaias was moving toward the east-northeast at 9 m.p.h. (15 km\/h).\u00a0 The maximum sustained wind speed was 80 m.p.h. (130 km\/h) and there were wind gusts to 95 m.p.h. (150 km\/h).\u00a0 The minimum surface pressure was 975 mb.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>A Hurricane Warning is in effect for the portion of the coast from Ocean Springs, Mississippi to the Bay County\/ Gulf County line in Florida.\u00a0 The Hurricane Warning includes Mobile, Alabama and Pensacola, Florida.<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for the portion of the coast from the Jefferson Parish\/Plaquemines Parish line in Louisiana to Ocean Springs, Mississippi.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for the portion of the coast from the Bay County\/Gulf County Line to Aucilla River, Florida.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Former Tropical Storm Isaias strengthened to a hurricane on Wednesday night.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/Isaias100826.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-25471\" src=\"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/Isaias100826-300x191.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"191\" srcset=\"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/Isaias100826-300x191.png 300w, https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/Isaias100826-768x489.png 768w, https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/Isaias100826-624x397.png 624w, https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/Isaias100826.png 943w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The inner end of a rainband wrapped around the western and southern sides of the center of Hurricane Isaias.\u00a0 An eye appeared to be forming at the center of Isaias&#8217; circulation.\u00a0 Bands of showers and thunderstorms were revolving around the center of Isaias\u2019 circulation.\u00a0 Storms near the center of Isaias generated upper level divergence that pumped mass away from the tropical storm.\u00a0 The removal of mass caused the surface pressure to decrease.<\/p>\n<p>The strongest winds were occurring in the rainband that wrapped around the western side of the center of Hurricane Isaias.\u00a0 Winds to hurricane force extended out 20 miles (30 km) in the western side of Isaias&#8217; circulation.\u00a0 Winds to tropical storm force extended out 90 miles (145 km) from the center of Hurricane Isaias.<\/p>\n<p>Hurricane Isaias will move through an environment that will be favorable for intensification during the next 24 hours.\u00a0 Isaias will move over water where the Sea Surface Temperatures are near 30\u00b0C.\u00a0 It will move under the southeastern part of an upper level trough that is over the South Central U.S.\u00a0 The upper level trough will produce westerly winds that will blow toward the top of Isaias&#8217;
