Former Tropical Storm Vance strengthened to a hurricane as it moved over the Eastern North Pacific Ocean south of Mexico on Thursday night.\u00a0 At 5:00 a.m. EDT on Friday the center of Hurricane Vance was located at latitude 10.9\u00b0N and longitude 102.1\u00b0W which put the center about 580 miles (930 km) south-southeast of Manzanillo, Mexico.\u00a0 Vance was moving toward the north-northwest at 6 m.p.h. (10 km\/h).\u00a0 The maximum sustained wind speed was 85 m.p.h. (135 km\/h) and there were wind gusts to 100 m.p.h. (160 km\/h).\u00a0 The minimum surface pressure was 982 mb.<\/p>\n

The inner end of a rainband wrapped around the center of Hurricane Vance.\u00a0 An eye appeared to be forming at the center of Vance’s circulation.\u00a0 Bands of showers and thunderstorms were revolving around the center of Hurricane Vance.\u00a0 Storms near the center generated upper level divergence that pumped mass away from the hurricane.\u00a0 The removal of mass caused the surface pressure to decrease.<\/p>\n

The strongest winds were occurring in the northern side of Hurricane Vance.\u00a0 Winds to hurricane force extended out 35 miles (55 km) in the northern half of Vance’s circulation.\u00a0 Winds to tropical storm force extended out 200 miles (320 km) from the center of Hurricane Vance.<\/p>\n

Hurricane Vance will move through an environment favorable for intensification during the next 24 hours.\u00a0 Vance will move over water where the Sea Surface Temperatures are near 30\u00b0C.\u00a0 It will move through a region where the upper level winds are weak and there will be little vertical wind shear.\u00a0 Hurricane Vance will intensify during the next 24 hours.\u00a0 Vance could intensify rapidly at times.\u00a0 Vance could strengthen to a major by the weekend.<\/p>\n

Hurricane Vance will move around the southwestern part of a high pressure system that is over southern Mexico.\u00a0 The high pressure system will steer Vance toward the north-northwest during the next 24 hours.\u00a0 On its anticipated track, Hurricane Vance will gradually move closer to the west coast of Mexico.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
