{"id":2733,"date":"2016-08-05T22:15:59","date_gmt":"2016-08-05T22:15:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/?p=2733"},"modified":"2016-08-05T22:15:59","modified_gmt":"2016-08-05T22:15:59","slug":"tropical-storm-earl-strengthens-near-veracruz","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/?p=2733","title":{"rendered":"Tropical Storm Earl Strengthens Near Veracruz"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Tropical Storm Earl regained strength on Friday after the center moved over the southern Bay of Campeche near Veracruz, Mexico.\u00a0 At 5:00 p.m. EDT on Friday the center of Tropical Storm Earl was located at latitude 18.8\u00b0N and longitude 95.0\u00b0W which put it about 85 miles (135 km) east-southeast of Veracruz, Mexico.\u00a0 Earl was moving toward the west at 8 m.p.h. (13 km\/h).\u00a0 The maximum sustained wind speed was 60 m.p.h. (95 km\/h) and there were wind gusts to 70 m.p.h. (115 km\/h).\u00a0 The minimum surface pressure was 1001 mb.<\/p>\n<p>Because Tropical Storm Earl re-intensified and the radius of tropical storm force winds expanded to the north, the government of Mexico extended Tropical Storm Warnings farther north along the coast.\u00a0 A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for the portion of the coast from Puerto Dos Bocas to Tecolutla, Mexico.<\/p>\n<p>Most of the circulation of Tropical Storm Earl remained intact while it moved over land from Belize to the Bay of Campeche.\u00a0 As a result, the surface part of the circulation on the northern side of Earl began to redevelop quickly as the center approached the water in the Bay of Campeche.\u00a0 A primary rainband wrapped most of the way around the center of circulation and other rainbands reformed over the Bay of Campeche.\u00a0 There have been hints on an incipient eye forming at the center of circulation on recent visible satellite images.\u00a0 Earl is a very well organized tropical storm.<\/p>\n<p>The Sea Surface Temperature is near 30\u00b0C in the southern Bay of Campeche.\u00a0 The upper level winds are weak and there is little vertical wind shear.\u00a0 Upper level divergence is well formed in Tropical Storm Earl and it is pumping out mass.\u00a0 The environment is favorable for further intensification.\u00a0 However, the center of circulation is close to the coast and approximately 40% of the circulation is over land.\u00a0 So, the proximity to land is the main factor inhibiting further strengthening.\u00a0 Tropical Storm Earl does have a few hours to intensify and it could get stronger.<\/p>\n<p>A subtropical ridge north of Earl is steering the tropical storm toward the west and that general motion is expected to continue.\u00a0 On its anticipated track the center of Tropical Storm Earl will be very near Veracruz, Mexico in 10-12 hours.<\/p>\n<p>The winds in Tropical Storm Earl are strong enough to create a storm surge of several feet (1-2 m) near where the center makes landfall and north of that location.\u00a0 The primary risks from Tropical Storm Earl will be very heavy rainfall and flash flooding.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tropical Storm Earl regained strength on Friday after the center moved over the southern Bay of Campeche near Veracruz, Mexico.\u00a0 At 5:00 p.m. EDT on Friday the center of Tropical Storm Earl was located at latitude 18.8\u00b0N and longitude 95.0\u00b0W which put it about 85 miles (135 km) east-southeast of Veracruz, Mexico.\u00a0 Earl was moving [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[3,2],"tags":[446,447,33,58,450,24,112,445],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/2733"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=2733"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/2733\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":2734,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/2733\/revisions\/2734"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=2733"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=2733"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=2733"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
