Tropical Cyclone Vardah neared landfall in Somalia late on Sunday.\u00a0 At 7:00 p.m. EST on Sunday the center of Tropical Cyclone Vardah was located at latitude 8.9\u00b0N and longitude 51.2\u00b0E which put it about 80 miles (130 km) east of Eyl, Somalia.\u00a0 Vardah was moving toward the west at 17 m.p.h. (27 km\/h).\u00a0 The maximum sustained wind speed was 35 m.p.h. (55 km\/h) and there were wind gusts to 45 m.p.h. (70 km\/h).\u00a0 The minimum surface pressure was 1005 mb.<\/p>\n
Tropical Cyclone Vardah has a small but well organized circulation.\u00a0 A couple of rainbands wrap tightly near the center of circulation.\u00a0 The are several other thin bands of showers.\u00a0 Thunderstorms near the center are generating upper level divergence.\u00a0 There is a distinct low level circulation, but it only extends about 120 miles (195 km) from the center.<\/p>\n
Tropical Cyclone Vardah is being steering a little south of due west by a subtropical ridge north of the cyclone.\u00a0 That general motion is expected to continue and Vardah could make landfall on the coast of Somalia in about 12 hours.\u00a0 Tropical Cyclone Vardah could bring gusty winds and locally heavy rain where the center moves into Somalia.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
