{"id":4018,"date":"2017-05-31T15:41:25","date_gmt":"2017-05-31T15:41:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/?p=4018"},"modified":"2017-05-31T15:41:25","modified_gmt":"2017-05-31T15:41:25","slug":"tropical-depression-2e-prompts-tropical-storm-watch-by-mexico","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/?p=4018","title":{"rendered":"Tropical Depression 2E Prompts Tropical Storm Watch By Mexico"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The National Hurricane Center designated former Invest 91E as Tropical Depression 2E and the government of Mexico issued a Tropical Storm Watch for the portion of the coast from Salina Cruz to Puerto Escondido.\u00a0 At 11:00 a.m. EDT on Wednesday the center of Tropical Depression 2E was located at latitude 13.9\u00b0N and longitude 97.8\u00b0W which put it about 250 miles (400 km) southeast of Acapulco, Mexico.\u00a0 The depression was moving toward the northeast at 3 m.p.h. (5 km\/h).\u00a0 The maximum sustained wind speed was 30 m.p.h. (50 km\/h) and there were wind gusts to 40 m.p.h. (65 km\/h).\u00a0 The minimum surface pressure was 1007 mb.<\/p>\n<p>Bands of showers and thunderstorms developed closer to the center of a broad area of low pressure previously designated as Invest 91E on Wednesday morning.\u00a0 The improved organization prompted the National Hurricane Center to classify the system as Tropical Depression 2E.\u00a0 Several bands of showers and thunderstorms were revolving around a tighter center of circulation.\u00a0 Additional bands of showers and thunderstorms were strengthening in the outer portions of the circulation.\u00a0 Thunderstorms in the inner part of the circulation were beginning to generate upper level divergence which was pumping out mass to the north and west of the depression.<\/p>\n<p>Tropical Depression 2E will be moving through an environment that will be favorable for intensification.\u00a0 It will be moving over water where the Sea Surface Temperature is 30\u00b0C to 31\u00b0C.\u00a0 An upper level ridge centered east of the depression will generate southerly winds which will blow toward the top of the circulation.\u00a0 Those winds will generate some vertical wind shear, but the shear will not be strong enough to prevent strengthening.\u00a0 The circulation around the upper level ridge could actually enhance upper level divergence to the north of the depression.\u00a0 Tropical Depression 2E is likely to intensify into a tropical storm during the next several days.<\/p>\n<p>A subtropical high east of the depression is steering the system slowly toward the northeast.\u00a0 A slow northerly motion is forecast for the next day or two.\u00a0 Forecast guidance from the numerical models diverges when the system approaches Mexico.\u00a0 Some models continue to move the depression inland over Mexico.\u00a0 Other models suggest that the steering winds will weaken and that the system will stall before it reaches the coast.\u00a0 The official forecast from the National Hurricane Center has the depression stalling very near the coast and then turning westward during the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>Bands of rain in the outer part of the circulation are already moving over the coast.\u00a0 Tropical Depression 2E will produce locally heavy rainfall over parts of southern Mexico and there is the potential for dangerous flash floods.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The National Hurricane Center designated former Invest 91E as Tropical Depression 2E and the government of Mexico issued a Tropical Storm Watch for the portion of the coast from Salina Cruz to Puerto Escondido.\u00a0 At 11:00 a.m. EDT on Wednesday the center of Tropical Depression 2E was located at latitude 13.9\u00b0N and longitude 97.8\u00b0W which [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[4,2],"tags":[692,400,693,691,24,694],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/4018"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=4018"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/4018\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":4019,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/4018\/revisions\/4019"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=4018"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=4018"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=4018"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
