{"id":4096,"date":"2017-06-20T03:45:02","date_gmt":"2017-06-20T03:45:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/?p=4096"},"modified":"2017-06-20T03:45:02","modified_gmt":"2017-06-20T03:45:02","slug":"potential-tropical-cyclone-three-prompts-warnings-and-watches-for-louisiana-and-texas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/?p=4096","title":{"rendered":"Potential Tropical Cyclone Three Prompts Warnings and Watches for Louisiana and Texas"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An area of low pressure designated Potential Tropical Cyclone Three moved into the Gulf of Mexico on Monday and the National Hurricane Center issued Tropical Storm Warnings and Watches for Louisiana and Texas.\u00a0 At 11:00 p.m. EDT on Monday the center of Potential Tropical Cyclone Three was located at latitude 24.4\u00b0N and longitude 89.5\u00b0W which put it about 380 miles (610 km) south-southeast of Morgan City, Louisiana.\u00a0 It was moving toward the north-northwest at 8 m.p.h. (13 km\/h).\u00a0 The maximum sustained wind speed was 40 m.p.h. (65 km\/h) and there were wind gusts to 50 m.p.h. (80 km\/h).\u00a0 The minimum surface pressure was 1000 mb<\/p>\n<p>A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for the portion of the coast from Intracoastal City, Louisiana to the mouth of the Pearl River.\u00a0 A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for the portion of the coast from High Island, Texas to Intracoastal City, Louisiana.<\/p>\n<p>The circulation of Potential Tropical Cyclone 03 is not very well organized.\u00a0 The system does have a well defined low level center of circulation.\u00a0 However, there are no thunderstorms near the low level center.\u00a0 All of the strong showers and thunderstorms are occurring in bands well to the east of the center of circulation.\u00a0 Some of those bands do contain winds to tropical storm force.\u00a0 An upper level low over the northwestern Gulf of Mexico is producing strong southwesterly winds which are blowing over the top of the low level center.\u00a0 The strong vertical wind shear created by those winds is preventing the development of storms closer to the low level center.<\/p>\n<p>The environment around Potential Tropical Cyclone 03 will remain unfavorable for intensification on Tuesday.\u00a0 The system will move move water where the Sea Surface Temperature is near 29\u00b0C.\u00a0 So, there will be enough energy to support intensification.\u00a0 However, the upper level low will continue to produce strong vertical wind shear over the low level center of circulation.\u00a0 The upper low is forecast to move slowly toward the northwest.\u00a0 It is possible that the strength of the upper level winds over the northwestern Gulf of Mexico could diminish in a day or two.\u00a0 If the shear decreases, thunderstorms could form closer to the center and if the structure of the system takes on a more tropical appearance, it could be designated Tropical Storm Cindy.<\/p>\n<p>Potential Tropical Cyclone 03 is moving around the western end of the subtropical high over the Atlantic Ocean.\u00a0 The high is steering the system toward the north-northwest and that general motion is expected to continue.\u00a0 On its anticipated track Potential Tropical Cyclone 03 is expected to approach the coast of Louisiana in about 48 hours.\u00a0 The steering winds could weaken when the system gets closer to the coast and the uncertainty about the future track increases after about 48 hours.<\/p>\n<p>Strong southerly flow on the eastern side of Potential Tropical Cyclone 03 will bring very humid air over the southeastern U.S.\u00a0 The biggest risk is likely to be heavy rain and the potential for floods.\u00a0 The system will also bring gusty winds and some storm surge to parts of the coast.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>An area of low pressure designated Potential Tropical Cyclone Three moved into the Gulf of Mexico on Monday and the National Hurricane Center issued Tropical Storm Warnings and Watches for Louisiana and Texas.\u00a0 At 11:00 p.m. EDT on Monday the center of Potential Tropical Cyclone Three was located at latitude 24.4\u00b0N and longitude 89.5\u00b0W which [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[3,2],"tags":[387,386,384,51,38,113,493,714,112],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/4096"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=4096"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/4096\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":4097,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/4096\/revisions\/4097"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=4096"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=4096"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=4096"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
