{"id":4271,"date":"2017-07-17T21:43:11","date_gmt":"2017-07-17T21:43:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/?p=4271"},"modified":"2017-07-17T21:43:11","modified_gmt":"2017-07-17T21:43:11","slug":"tropical-storm-don-forms-east-of-windward-islands","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/?p=4271","title":{"rendered":"Tropical Storm Don Forms East of Windward Islands"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Tropical Storm Don formed east of the Windward Islands on Monday.\u00a0 An Air Force Reserve Hurricane Hunter reconnaissance aircraft found a small, but well defined center of circulation in a cluster of thunderstorms formerly designated Invest 91L.\u00a0 Based on information from the recon plane, the National Hurricane Center classified the system at Tropical Storm Don.\u00a0 At 5:00 p.m. EDT on Monday the center of Tropical Storm Don was located at latitude 11.2\u00b0N and longitude 52.6\u00b0W which put it about 595 miles (955 km) east of Trinidad.\u00a0 Don was moving toward the west at 17 m.p.h. (28 km\/h).\u00a0 The maximum sustained wind speed was 40 m.p.h. (65 km\/h) and there were wind gusts to 50 m.p.h. (80 km\/h).\u00a0 The minimum surface pressure was 1009 mb.<\/p>\n<p>A Tropical Storm Warning has been issue for Grenada.\u00a0 Tropical Storm Watches are in effect for Barbados, St. Vincent, the Grenadines and St. Lucia.<\/p>\n<p>The reconnaissance plane found a small, tight center of circulation near the surface.\u00a0 A thin band of showers and thunderstorms wrapped partially around the western side of the center.\u00a0 Other thin bands of showers and thunderstorms were occurring north and west of the center.\u00a0 There were fewer showers and thunderstorms in the eastern half of Tropical Storm Don.\u00a0 The circulation of Tropical Storm Don is small and winds to tropical storm force only extend out about 25 miles (40 km) from the center of circulation.\u00a0 Thunderstorms in the band west of the center of circulation were generating some upper level divergence but it was not well developed.<\/p>\n<p>Tropical Storm Don will move through an environment that will be somewhat favorable for intensification during the next several days.\u00a0 Don will move over water where the Sea Surface Temperature is near 29\u00b0C.\u00a0 An upper level ridge east of Don is generating easterly winds which are blowing over the top of the tropical storm.\u00a0 Those easterly winds are generating some vertical wind shear and the shear may partly explain why there are fewer showers and thunderstorms in the eastern half of the circulation.\u00a0 The shear will also inhibit intensification, but Tropical Storm Don could strengthen during the next 24 to 48 hours.<\/p>\n<p>A strong subtropical high over the Atlantic Ocean is steering Tropical Storm Don toward the west and a generally westward motion is expected to continue during the next several days.\u00a0 On its anticipated track the center of Tropical Storm Don could pass south of Barbados on Tuesday.\u00a0 Tropical Storm Don could move over the southern Windward Islands on Tuesday night.\u00a0 Tropical Storm Don could bring gusty winds and locally heavy rain to the southern Windward Islands.\u00a0 Flash floods could occur in areas of steep terrain, if they receive locally heavy rainfall.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tropical Storm Don formed east of the Windward Islands on Monday.\u00a0 An Air Force Reserve Hurricane Hunter reconnaissance aircraft found a small, but well defined center of circulation in a cluster of thunderstorms formerly designated Invest 91L.\u00a0 Based on information from the recon plane, the National Hurricane Center classified the system at Tropical Storm Don.\u00a0 [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[3,2],"tags":[446,447,535,712,536,731,732,711,710,730,137],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/4271"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=4271"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/4271\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":4272,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/4271\/revisions\/4272"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=4271"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=4271"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=4271"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
