{"id":4528,"date":"2017-08-17T21:50:16","date_gmt":"2017-08-17T21:50:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/?p=4528"},"modified":"2017-08-17T21:50:16","modified_gmt":"2017-08-17T21:50:16","slug":"tropical-storm-harvey-develops-east-of-barbados","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/?p=4528","title":{"rendered":"Tropical Storm Harvey Develops East of Barbados"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A reconnaissance plane found that a center of circulation and winds to tropical storm force had developed in a tropical wave previously designated as Invest 91L and Potential Tropical Cyclone Nine.\u00a0 Based on data collected by the recon plane the National Hurricane Center named the system Tropical Storm Harvey on Thursday afternoon.\u00a0 At 5:00 p.m. EDT on Thursday the center of Tropical Storm Harvey was located at latitude 13.0\u00b0N and longitude 55.8\u00b0W which put it about 250 miles (400 km) east of Barbados.\u00a0 Harvey was moving toward the west at 18 m.p.h. (30 km\/h).\u00a0 The maximum sustained wind speed was 40 m.p.h. (65 km\/h) and there were wind gusts to 50 m.p.h. (80 km\/h).\u00a0 The minimum surface pressure was 1004 mb.<\/p>\n<p>A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Martinique, Barbados, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and St. Lucia.\u00a0 A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for Dominica.<\/p>\n<p>The circulation of Tropical Storm Harvey became better organized on Thursday.\u00a0 A low level center of circulation developed and bands of showers and thunderstorms began to revolve around the center.\u00a0 Intermittent bursts of thunderstorms occurred near and to the west of the center of circulation.\u00a0 The circulation of Tropical Storm Harvey is asymmetrical.\u00a0 Most of the stronger thunderstorms are occurring in the western half of the circulation.\u00a0 The bands in the eastern half of the circulation consist primarily of showers and low clouds.\u00a0 Thunderstorms near the core of Harvey were generating some upper level divergence which was pumping mass away to the south and west of the tropical storm.<\/p>\n<p>Tropical Storm Harvey will be moving through an environment that will be somewhat favorable for intensification.\u00a0 Harvey will move over water where the Sea Surface Temperature is near 29\u00b0C.\u00a0 An upper level ridge northeast of Puerto Rico is producing northeasterly winds which are blowing toward the top of Tropical Storm Harvey.\u00a0 Those winds are producing moderate vertical wind shear which is probably the cause of the asymmetrical distribution of thunderstorms.\u00a0 Tropical Storm Harvey is likely to get better organized on Friday and it could strengthen.\u00a0 The intensity guidance is mixed.\u00a0 Some guidance forecasts that Harvey will become a hurricane as it moves over the Caribbean Sea, while other guidance weaken the tropical storm back to a tropical wave.\u00a0 So far, the guidance has underpredicted the strength of Tropical Storm Harvey and so strengthen would seem more likely.<\/p>\n<p>Tropical Storm Harvey is being steered quickly toward the west by the subtropical high over the Atlantic Ocean.\u00a0 A general westerly or west-northwesterly track is forecast for the next few days.\u00a0 On its anticipate track Tropical Storm Harvey could reach Barbados in about 12 hours.\u00a0 Harvey could also reach Martinique, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines on Friday.\u00a0 Tropical Storm Harvey will bring gusty winds and locally heavy rain to those islands when it moves over them.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A reconnaissance plane found that a center of circulation and winds to tropical storm force had developed in a tropical wave previously designated as Invest 91L and Potential Tropical Cyclone Nine.\u00a0 Based on data collected by the recon plane the National Hurricane Center named the system Tropical Storm Harvey on Thursday afternoon.\u00a0 At 5:00 p.m. [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[3,2],"tags":[491,375,492,660,535,138,537,374,538,779,536,780,778],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/4528"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=4528"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/4528\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":4529,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/4528\/revisions\/4529"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=4528"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=4528"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=4528"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
