{"id":517,"date":"2015-03-12T03:21:02","date_gmt":"2015-03-12T03:21:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/?p=517"},"modified":"2015-03-12T03:21:02","modified_gmt":"2015-03-12T03:21:02","slug":"tropical-cyclone-nathan-lingering-off-coast-of-queensland","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/?p=517","title":{"rendered":"Tropical Cyclone Nathan Lingering Off Coast of Queensland"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Tropical Cyclone Nathan moved slowly toward the northern coast of Queensland on Wednesday.\u00a0 At 11:00 p.m. EDT on Wednesday the center of Tropical Cyclone Nathan was located at latitude 13.5\u00b0S and longitude 145.3\u00b0E which put it about 110 miles north of Cooktown, Australia and about 70 miles east of Cape Flattery.\u00a0 Nathan was moving toward the west at 4 m.p.h.\u00a0 The maximum sustained wind speed was 65 m.p.h. and there were gusts to 85 m.p.h.\u00a0 The minimum surface pressure was 982 mb.<\/p>\n<p>The eastern half of the circulation around Nathan was being affected by some of the upper level outflow from large Tropical Cyclone Pam to the east.\u00a0 The outflow from Pam was creating vertical wind shear over the eastern half of Nathan and inhibiting convection on that side of the circulation.\u00a0 In addition, Nathan is close enough to the coast of Queensland that interaction with land could be affecting some of the circulation on the western side of the storm.\u00a0 Despite those negative influences, Nathan is over warm Sea Surface Temperatures and the wind speeds increased slightly on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Numerical guidance continues to suggest that a near equatorial ridge will build north of Nathan and stop its westward motion.\u00a0 The ridge is projected to eventually push Nathan back toward the east later this week.\u00a0 The center of Nathan is within 70 miles of the coast of Queensland, and even if it turns back toward the east it could bring high winds and a storm surge to a portion of the coast near Cape Flattery.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tropical Cyclone Nathan moved slowly toward the northern coast of Queensland on Wednesday.\u00a0 At 11:00 p.m. EDT on Wednesday the center of Tropical Cyclone Nathan was located at latitude 13.5\u00b0S and longitude 145.3\u00b0E which put it about 110 miles north of Cooktown, Australia and about 70 miles east of Cape Flattery.\u00a0 Nathan was moving toward [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[81,2],"tags":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/517"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=517"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/517\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":518,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/517\/revisions\/518"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=517"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=517"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=517"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
