{"id":5357,"date":"2017-12-29T17:08:03","date_gmt":"2017-12-29T17:08:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/?p=5357"},"modified":"2017-12-29T17:08:03","modified_gmt":"2017-12-29T17:08:03","slug":"former-tropical-cyclone-hilda-drops-heavy-rain-over-western-australia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/?p=5357","title":{"rendered":"Former Tropical Cyclone Hilda Drops Heavy Rain Over Western Australia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Former Tropical Cyclone Hilda dropped heavy rain over Western Australia on Friday.\u00a0 At 11:00 a.m. EST on Friday the center of former Tropical Cyclone Hilda was located at latitude 22.7\u00b0S and longitude 123.6\u00b0E which put it about 50 miles (80 km) east-northeast of Telfer, Australia.\u00a0 Hilda was moving toward the southeast at 6 m.p.h. (10 km\/h).\u00a0 The maximum sustained wind speed was 30 m.p.h. (50 km\/h) and there were wind gusts to 40 m.p.h. (65 km\/h).\u00a0 The minimum surface pressure was 999 mb.<\/p>\n<p>Although the center has been over land for more than a day, the circulation of former Tropical Cyclone Hilda is still well organized.\u00a0 There is a well defined low level center of circulation and strong thunderstorms are occurring around the center.\u00a0 Several bands of thunderstorms are revolving around the core of the circulation.\u00a0 Storms near the core are generating strong upper level divergence which is pumping away mass.\u00a0 The upper level divergence is preventing the surface pressure from increasing and that is allowing the surface low to maintain its intensity.<\/p>\n<p>Storms near the core of former Tropical Cyclone Hilda and the rainbands are dropping heavy rain over parts of Western Australia.\u00a0 That region is normally dry and the potential for flash floods exists.\u00a0 The Australian Bureau of Meteorology has issued Flood Warnings for the Sandy Desert and West Kimberly District.\u00a0 They have also issued Flood Watches for the De Grey River, Salt Lakes and Warburton District Catchments.\u00a0 The storms generated by former Tropical Cyclone Hilda could also cause localized wind damage, but the greatest risk is posed by the heavy rain.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Former Tropical Cyclone Hilda dropped heavy rain over Western Australia on Friday.\u00a0 At 11:00 a.m. EST on Friday the center of former Tropical Cyclone Hilda was located at latitude 22.7\u00b0S and longitude 123.6\u00b0E which put it about 50 miles (80 km) east-northeast of Telfer, Australia.\u00a0 Hilda was moving toward the southeast at 6 m.p.h.
