{"id":5454,"date":"2018-01-18T05:02:23","date_gmt":"2018-01-18T05:02:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/?p=5454"},"modified":"2018-01-18T05:02:23","modified_gmt":"2018-01-18T05:02:23","slug":"tropical-cyclone-berguitta-brings-wind-rain-to-mauritius-la-reunion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/?p=5454","title":{"rendered":"Tropical Cyclone Berguitta Brings Wind, Rain to Mauritius &#038; La Reunion"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Tropical Cyclone Berguitta was bringing wind and rain to Mauritius and La Reunion late Wednesday as it closed in on those places.\u00a0 At 10:00 p.m. EST on Monday the center of Tropical Cyclone Berguitta was located at latitude 20.1\u00b0S and longitude 58.0\u00b0E which put it about 80 miles (130 km) east-northeast of Port Louis, Mauritius.\u00a0 Berguitta was moving toward the southwest at 13 m.p.h. (21 km\/h).\u00a0 The maximum sustained wind speed was 75 m.p.h. (120 km\/h) and there were wind gusts to 90 m.p.h. (145 km\/h).\u00a0 The minimum surface pressure was 979 mb.<\/p>\n<p>Tropical Cyclone Berguitta was the equivalent of a hurricane\/typhoon as it approached Mauritius and La Reunion.\u00a0 A partial eyewall surrounded the remnant of the eye.\u00a0 A primary rainband wrapped around the western side of the circulation.\u00a0 The heaviest rain was falling in the rainband.\u00a0 Numerous bands of showers and isolated thunderstorms were revolving around the core of the circulation.\u00a0 Tropical Cyclone Berguitta was still generating upper level divergence which was pumping mass away from the center of circulation.\u00a0 Winds to hurricane\/typhoon force extended out about 35 miles (55 km) from the center of circulation.\u00a0 Winds to tropical storm force extended out about 195 miles (315 km) from the center.<\/p>\n<p>Tropical Cyclone Berguitta was moving through an environment that could allow it to maintain its intensity for another 24 to 36 hours.\u00a0 Berguitta will move over water where the Sea Surface Temperature is near 27\u00b0C.\u00a0 An upper level ridge to the east of Berguitta is producing easterly winds which are blowing toward the top of the tropical cyclone.\u00a0 Those winds are causing moderate vertical wind shear, but they may not be strong enough to weaken the storm during the next 24 hours.<\/p>\n<p>Tropical Cyclone Berguitta is moving around the western end of a subtropical ridge which is steering the tropical cyclone toward the southwest.\u00a0 A general southwesterly motion is expected to continue for another day or two.\u00a0 On its anticipated track the center of Tropical Cyclone Berguitta will reach Mauritius within six hours.\u00a0 The center of Berguitta will be near La Reunion in 12 to 14 hours.<\/p>\n<p>Tropical Cyclone Berguitta will bring strong, gusty winds to Mauritius and La Reunion on Thursday.\u00a0 It could be the equivalent of a hurricane\/typhoon when it moves over those places.\u00a0 The center could pass right over Mauritius and the winds to hurricane\/typhoon force could blow over it.\u00a0 The center could pass just to the east of La Reunion, but winds to hurricane\/typhoon force could also blow across it.\u00a0 Berguitta will also drop locally heavy rain which could cause floods.\u00a0 The winds could cause a storm surge of 5 to 8 feet (1.5 to 1.5 meters) on the eastern shores where the winds will be blowing water toward the coast.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tropical Cyclone Berguitta was bringing wind and rain to Mauritius and La Reunion late Wednesday as it closed in on those places.\u00a0 At 10:00 p.m. EST on Monday the center of Tropical Cyclone Berguitta was located at latitude 20.1\u00b0S and longitude 58.0\u00b0E which put it about 80 miles (130 km) east-northeast of Port Louis, Mauritius.\u00a0 [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[48,2],"tags":[313,84,85,74,300,612,942],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/5454"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=5454"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/5454\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":5455,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/5454\/revisions\/5455"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=5454"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=5454"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=5454"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
