{"id":574,"date":"2015-03-19T02:50:42","date_gmt":"2015-03-19T02:50:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/?p=574"},"modified":"2015-03-19T02:50:42","modified_gmt":"2015-03-19T02:50:42","slug":"tropical-cyclone-nathan-approaching-queensland-coast","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/?p=574","title":{"rendered":"Tropical Cyclone Nathan Approaching Queensland Coast"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Tropical cyclone Nathan is moving toward the coast of Queensland and it is intensifying.\u00a0 At 10:00 p.m. EDT on Wednesday the center of Tropical Cyclone Nathan was located at latitude 14.7\u00b0S and longitude 147.4\u00b0E which put it about 140 miles east of Cape Flattery, about 190 miles east-northeast of Cooktown and about 200 miles east of Cape Melville.\u00a0 Nathan was moving toward the west at 7 m.p.h.\u00a0 The maximum sustained wind speed was 95 m.p.h. and there were gusts to 120 m.p.h.\u00a0 The minimum surface pressure was 959 mb.<\/p>\n<p>Nathan intensified quickly on Wednesday and it is close to being the equivalent of a Category 2 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Scale.\u00a0 The core of the circulation is moving over warm Sea Surface Temperatures.\u00a0 The upper level winds are light and there is very little vertical wind shear.\u00a0 Nathan is in a favorable environment and it has well developed upper level outflow.\u00a0 It is expected to increase in intensity until it makes landfall.<\/p>\n<p>A subtropical ridge building northwest of Nathan is expected to steer it west toward the cost of Queensland.\u00a0 On the projected track, the center will make landfall between Cape Melville and Cooktown in 12 to 18 hours.\u00a0 Nathan has the potential to bring strong winds near where the center makes landfall.\u00a0 Even though the circulation is relatively small, it also has the potential to generate a significant storm surge near the location of landfall.\u00a0 The strength of the circulation also will create the potential for locally heavy rainfall and flooding as the cyclone moves inland.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tropical cyclone Nathan is moving toward the coast of Queensland and it is intensifying.\u00a0 At 10:00 p.m. EDT on Wednesday the center of Tropical Cyclone Nathan was located at latitude 14.7\u00b0S and longitude 147.4\u00b0E which put it about 140 miles east of Cape Flattery, about 190 miles east-northeast of Cooktown and about 200 miles east [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[81,2],"tags":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/574"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=574"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/574\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":575,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/574\/revisions\/575"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=574"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=574"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=574"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
