{"id":581,"date":"2015-03-20T16:08:40","date_gmt":"2015-03-20T16:08:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/?p=581"},"modified":"2015-03-20T16:08:40","modified_gmt":"2015-03-20T16:08:40","slug":"tropical-cyclone-nathan-crossing-cape-york-peninsula","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/?p=581","title":{"rendered":"Tropical Cyclone Nathan Crossing Cape York Peninsula"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Tropical Cyclone Nathan made landfall in Queensland and it is now crossing the Cape York Peninsula.\u00a0 At 11:00 a.m. EDT on Friday the center of Tropical Cyclone Nathan was located at latitude 14.4\u00b0N and longitude 142.2\u00b0E which put it about 75 miles west-southwest of Coen, about 80 miles north-northeast of Kowanyama and about 530 miles east-southeast of Alyangula, Australia.\u00a0 Nathan was moving toward the west at 11 m.p.h.\u00a0 The maximum sustained wind speed was 65 m.p.h. and there were gusts to 80 m.p.h.\u00a0 The minimum surface pressure was 984 mb.<\/p>\n<p>Nathan has been weakening as it moves across the Cape York Peninsula in Northern Queensland.\u00a0 However, it is approaching the Gulf of Carpentaria and the center of circulation will soon be back over water.\u00a0 The circulation is still mostly intact and it has well developed upper level outflow.\u00a0 The water at the surface of the Gulf of Carpentaria is very warm.\u00a0 In addition, the upper level winds around Nathan are very light and there is very little vertical wind shear.\u00a0 So, the environment around Nathan is quite favorable for intensification and it is possible that a period of rapid re-intensification could occur.<\/p>\n<p>A subtropical ridge is expected to steer Nathan in a west-northwesterly direction during the next several days.\u00a0 The projected track would have Nathan making another landfall in the Northern Territory between Port Roper and Nhulunbuy in 24 to 36 hours.\u00a0 If Nathan does reintensify it could bring strong winds and a storm surge to the coast.\u00a0 It will also be capable of producing locally heavy rainfall and flooding in inland locations.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tropical Cyclone Nathan made landfall in Queensland and it is now crossing the Cape York Peninsula.\u00a0 At 11:00 a.m. EDT on Friday the center of Tropical Cyclone Nathan was located at latitude 14.4\u00b0N and longitude 142.2\u00b0E which put it about 75 miles west-southwest of Coen, about 80 miles north-northeast of Kowanyama and about 530 miles [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[81,2],"tags":[83,82],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/581"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=581"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/581\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":582,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/581\/revisions\/582"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=581"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=581"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=581"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
