{"id":6200,"date":"2018-07-14T19:49:46","date_gmt":"2018-07-14T19:49:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/?p=6200"},"modified":"2018-07-14T19:49:46","modified_gmt":"2018-07-14T19:49:46","slug":"beryl-reorganizes-as-a-subtropical-storm-north-of-bermuda","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/?p=6200","title":{"rendered":"Beryl Reorganizes as a Subtropical Storm North of Bermuda"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A low pressure system associated with former Tropical Storm Beryl reorganized north of Bermuda on Saturday and the National Hurricane Center designated the system as Subtropical Storm Beryl.\u00a0 At 2:00 p.m. EDT on Saturday the center of Subtropical Storm Beryl was located at latitude 36.4\u00b0N and longitude 65.7\u00b0W which put it about 575 miles (930 km) south-southwest of Halifax, Nova Scotia.\u00a0 Beryl was moving toward the northeast at 12 m.p.h. (19 km\/h).\u00a0 The maximum sustained wind speed was 40 m.p.h. (65 km\/h) and there were wind gusts to 50 m.p.h. (80 km\/h).\u00a0 The minimum surface pressure was 1010 mb.<\/p>\n<p>The remnants of former Tropical Storm Beryl moved slowly across the northern Caribbean Sea and then over the southeastern Bahamas to a position northwest of Bermuda.\u00a0 A low pressure system formed at the surface.\u00a0 Bands of showers and thunderstorms developed and began to revolve around the the low pressure system.\u00a0 The low pressure system moved under the eastern side of an upper level trough.\u00a0 The trough contains colder air in the upper levels and it was also producing southwesterly winds which were blowing toward the top of the surface low pressure system.\u00a0 The southwesterly winds were generating moderate vertical wind shear and the strongest rainbands were occurring on the eastern side of the surface low.\u00a0 Some drier air was moving around the western and southern part of the upper level trough, which may have contributed to the weaker bands on the western side of the circulation.\u00a0 The presence of the upper level trough and the asymmetrical distribution of thunderstorms around the surface low prompted the National Hurricane Center to designate the system as a subtropical storm.<\/p>\n<p>Subtropical Storm Beryl will move through an environment marginally favorable for intensification during the next 24 hours.\u00a0 Beryl will move over water where the Sea Surface Temperature is near 26\u00b0C.\u00a0 The upper level trough will continue to produce moderate vertical wind shear.\u00a0 The wind shear and the drier air will inhibit intensification.\u00a0 Subtropical Storm Beryl could intensify a little more during the next 24 hours.\u00a0 Beryl will move over colder water later on Sunday and it will start to weaken when that occurs.<\/p>\n<p>The upper level trough was steering Subtropical Storm Beryl toward the northeast and a general motion in that direction is forecast to continue for several more days.\u00a0 On its anticipated track Subtropical Storm Beryl will pass south of Nova Scotia on Sunday.\u00a0 Beryl could be near Newfoundland by Tuesday.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A low pressure system associated with former Tropical Storm Beryl reorganized north of Bermuda on Saturday and the National Hurricane Center designated the system as Subtropical Storm Beryl.\u00a0 At 2:00 p.m. EDT on Saturday the center of Subtropical Storm Beryl was located at latitude 36.4\u00b0N and longitude 65.7\u00b0W which put it about 575 miles (930 [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[3,2],"tags":[378,377,31,1067,273,1085,169,131,1084],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/6200"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=6200"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/6200\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":6201,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/6200\/revisions\/6201"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=6200"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=6200"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=6200"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
