{"id":63,"date":"2014-09-06T14:04:31","date_gmt":"2014-09-06T14:04:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/?p=63"},"modified":"2014-09-06T14:04:31","modified_gmt":"2014-09-06T14:04:31","slug":"norbert-reaches-major-hurricane-status","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/?p=63","title":{"rendered":"Norbert Reaches Major Hurricane Status"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Despite being close to land and near much cooler Sea Surface Temperatures (SSTs) Hurricane Norbert intensified rapidly during the overnight hours and it has maximum sustained winds of 120 m.p.h.\u00a0 This makes Norbert a Category 3 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Scale and it is considered to be a Major Hurricane.\u00a0 At 8:00 a.m. EDT on Saturday the center of Norbert was located at latitude 24.8\u00b0N and longitude 113.8\u00b0W which put it about 95 miles west of Cabo San Lazaro and about 220 miles south-southeast of Punta Eugenia, Mexico.\u00a0 Norbert was moving toward the northwest at 8 m.p.h.\u00a0 The minimum surface pressure was estimated to be 957 mb.<\/p>\n<p>The government of Mexico has adjusted the warnings issued for Norbert.\u00a0 The Hurricane Warning has been discontinued.\u00a0 Tropical Storm Warnings are now in effect for the portion of the coast from Santa Fe to Punta Eugenia and from San Evaristo to Loreto.<\/p>\n<p>Norbert is expected to continue to move toward the northwest this weekend.\u00a0 It will soon move over much cooler SSTs.\u00a0 Once Norbert moves into that environment it will encounter much cooler, more stable air which will begin to lessen the convection.\u00a0 As Norbert extracts less energy from the ocean and convection transports less energy upward, the circulation will begin to spin down.<\/p>\n<p>The remnants of Norbert&#8217;s circulation could turn northeast and cross northern Baja California into the southwestern U.S. next week.\u00a0 It is also possible that as the circulation around Norbert weakens, the upper and lower portions could decouple.\u00a0 The upper and middle portion of the circulation could move over the southwestern U.S. and enhance the probability for rainfall there, while the lower level circulation remains nearly stationary and dissipates west of Baja California.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Despite being close to land and near much cooler Sea Surface Temperatures (SSTs) Hurricane Norbert intensified rapidly during the overnight hours and it has maximum sustained winds of 120 m.p.h.\u00a0 This makes Norbert a Category 3 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Scale and it is considered to be a Major Hurricane.\u00a0 At 8:00 a.m. EDT on [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[4,2],"tags":[39,24,40],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/63"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=63"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/63\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":64,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/63\/revisions\/64"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=63"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=63"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=63"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
