{"id":6446,"date":"2018-08-22T03:43:32","date_gmt":"2018-08-22T03:43:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/?p=6446"},"modified":"2018-08-22T03:43:32","modified_gmt":"2018-08-22T03:43:32","slug":"typhoon-soulik-threatens-south-korea-cimaron-heads-toward-japan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/?p=6446","title":{"rendered":"Typhoon Soulik Threatens South Korea, Cimaron Heads Toward Japan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Typhoon Soulik threatened South Korea on Tuesday night and Typhoon Cimaron headed toward Japan.\u00a0 At 11:00 p.m. EDT on Tuesday the center of Typhoon Soulik was located at latitude 30.8\u00b0N and longitude 127.3\u00b0E which put it about 200 miles (320 km) south-southeast of Cheju, South Korea.\u00a0 Soulik was moving toward the northwest at 13 m.p.h. (20 km\/h).\u00a0 The maximum sustained wind speed was 110 m.p.h. (175 km\/h) and there were wind gusts to 130 m.p.h. (210 km\/h).\u00a0 The minimum surface pressure was 956 mb.<\/p>\n<p>There was a large eye with a diameter of 65 miles (105 km) at the center of Typhoon Soulik.\u00a0 A ring of strong thunderstorms surround the eye, but there were some breaks in the ring of storms.\u00a0 The strongest winds were occurring in that ring of storms.\u00a0 Several bands of showers and thunderstorms were revolving around the core of Typhoon Soulik.\u00a0 Winds to typhoon force extended out about 70 miles (110 km) from the center of circulation.\u00a0 Winds to tropical storm force extended out about 250 miles (400 km) from the center.<\/p>\n<p>Typhoon Soulik will move around the western end of a subtropical ridge over the Western North Pacific Ocean.\u00a0 The ridge will steer Soulik more toward the north during the next 24 to 36 hours.\u00a0 On its anticipated track Typhoon Soulik will be near Cheju Island in 18 to 24 hours.\u00a0 Soulik could be near Seoul, South Korea in less than 48 hours.\u00a0\u00a0 Typhoon Soulik will move over cooler water when it moves northward.\u00a0 Vertical wind shear will also increase as an upper level trough approaches the typhoon from the west.\u00a0 Soulik is likely to be a typhoon when it approaches Cheju Island.\u00a0 It will drop heavy rain over South Korea and there will be a risk for flash floods.<\/p>\n<p>At 11:00 p.m. EDT on Tuesday the center of Typhoon Cimaron was located at latitude 24.8\u00b0N and longitude 139.3\u00b0E which put it about 95 miles (150 km) west-southwest of Iwo To.\u00a0 Cimaron was moving toward the northwest at 19 m.p.h. (31 km\/h).\u00a0 The maximum sustained wind speed was 125 m.p.h. (205 km\/h) and there were wind gusts to 155 m.p.h.
