{"id":7630,"date":"2019-04-05T20:24:08","date_gmt":"2019-04-05T20:24:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/?p=7630"},"modified":"2019-04-05T20:24:08","modified_gmt":"2019-04-05T20:24:08","slug":"tropical-cyclone-wallace-develops-north-of-western-australia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/?p=7630","title":{"rendered":"Tropical Cyclone Wallace Develops North of Western Australia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Tropical Cyclone Wallace developed over the Timor Sea north of Western Australia on Friday.\u00a0 At 2:00 p.m. EDT on Friday the center of Tropical Cyclone Wallace was located at latitude 11.7\u00b0S and longitude 125.7\u00b0E which put it about 280 miles (440 km) north-northeast of Kuri Bay, Australia.\u00a0 Wallace was moving toward the west at 6 m.p.h. (9 km\/h).\u00a0 The maximum sustained wind speed was 45 m.p.h. (75 km\/h) and there were wind gusts to 60 m.p.h. (95 km\/h).\u00a0 The minimum surface pressure was 997 mb.<\/p>\n<p>The Australian Bureau of Meteorology posted a Tropical Cyclone Warning from Kalumburu to Beagle Bay.<\/p>\n<p>More thunderstorms developed near the center of a Tropical Low over the Timor Sea on Friday and the Australian Bureau of Meteorology designated the system as Tropical Cyclone Wallace.\u00a0 The distribution of thunderstorms in the circulation around Wallace was asymmetrical.\u00a0 Most of the thunderstorms were occurring west of the center of circulation and in bands in the western half of the tropical cyclone.\u00a0 Bands in the eastern half of of Tropical Cyclone Wallace consisted primarily of showers and lower clouds.\u00a0 Winds to tropical storm force extended out about 150 miles (240 km) from the center of circulation.<\/p>\n<p>Tropical Cyclone Wallace was moving north of an upper level ridge.\u00a0 The ridge was producing strong easterly winds which were causing significant vertical wind shear.\u00a0 Those winds and the shear were probably the cause of the asymmetrical distribution of thunderstorms.\u00a0 Storms west of the center of circulation were generating upper level divergence which was pumping mass away to the west of Tropical Cyclone Wallace.<\/p>\n<p>Tropical Cyclone Wallace may move into an area more favorable for intensification during the next day or two.\u00a0 Wallace could move into an area where the upper level winds are not quite as strong.\u00a0 Tropical Cyclone Wallace will move over water where the Sea Surface Temperature is near 29\u00b0C.\u00a0 So, if it moves into an area where the shear is less, then Tropical Cyclone Wallace is likely to strengthen.\u00a0 There is a chance Wallace could intensify into the equivalent of a hurricane\/typhoon during the next two or three days.<\/p>\n<p>Tropical Cyclone Wallace will move around the northwestern end of a subtropical ridge over Australia.\u00a0 The ridge will steer Wallace toward the west-southwest during the next several days.\u00a0 On its anticipated track the core of Tropical Cyclone Wallace is forecast to stay north of the coast of Western Australia during the next few days.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tropical Cyclone Wallace developed over the Timor Sea north of Western Australia on Friday.\u00a0 At 2:00 p.m. EDT on Friday the center of Tropical Cyclone Wallace was located at latitude 11.7\u00b0S and longitude 125.7\u00b0E which put it about 280 miles (440 km) north-northeast of Kuri Bay, Australia.\u00a0 Wallace was moving toward the west at 6 [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[81,48,2],"tags":[1472,1473,641,1480,1481,94],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/7630"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=7630"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/7630\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":7631,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/7630\/revisions\/7631"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=7630"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=7630"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=7630"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
