{"id":7957,"date":"2019-07-19T15:45:45","date_gmt":"2019-07-19T15:45:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/?p=7957"},"modified":"2019-07-19T15:45:45","modified_gmt":"2019-07-19T15:45:45","slug":"tropical-storm-danas-speeds-toward-south-korea","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/?p=7957","title":{"rendered":"Tropical Storm Danas Speeds Toward South Korea"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Tropical Storm Danas sped toward South Korea on Friday as it moved quickly north-northeast over the East China Sea.\u00a0 At 11:00 a.m. EDT on Friday the center of Tropical Storm Danas was located at latitude 32.3\u00b0N and longitude 125.1\u00b0E which put it about 190 miles (305 km) south-southwest of Mopko, South Korea.\u00a0 Danas was moving toward the north-northeast at 19 m.p.h. (30 km\/h).\u00a0 The maximum sustained wind speed was 50 m.p.h. (80 km\/h) and there were wind gusts to 65 m.p.h. (105 km\/h).\u00a0 The minimum surface pressure was 987 mb.<\/p>\n<p>The distribution of thunderstorms around Tropical Storm Danas remained asymmetrical on Friday.\u00a0 The strongest thunderstorms were occurring in bands well to the east of the center of circulation.\u00a0 Bands closer to the center and on the western side of the circulation consisted primarily of showers and lower clouds.\u00a0 An upper level trough over eastern China was producing southwesterly winds which were blowing toward the top of the circulation.\u00a0 Those winds were causing moderate vertical wind shear and they were the reason for the asymmetrical distribution of thunderstorms.\u00a0 The wind field also exhibited the effects of the wind shear.\u00a0 Winds to tropical storm force extended out about 200 miles (320 km) from the center of Danas on the eastern side of the circulation, but only extended out about 120 miles (195 km) on the western side of the tropical storm.<\/p>\n<p>Tropical Storm Danas will remain in an environment only marginally favorable for intensification until it makes landfall in South Korea.\u00a0 Danas will move over water where the Sea Surface Temperature is near 30\u00b0C.\u00a0 The upper level trough over eastern China will continue to cause moderate vertical wind shear.\u00a0 Tropical Storm Danas could intensify a little during the next 12 hours, but it will weaken after the center moves over South Korea.<\/p>\n<p>Tropical Storm Danas will move around the western end of a subtropical ridge over the western North Pacific Ocean.\u00a0 The ridge and the upper level trough will interact to steer Danas rapidly toward the north-northeast.\u00a0 On its anticipated track the center of Tropical Storm Danas will make landfall on the southwestern coast of South Korea in about 12 hours.\u00a0 Danas will bring gusty winds and locally heavy rain to South Korea on Saturday.\u00a0 The heaviest rain will fall over the southeastern half of South Korea.\u00a0 Locally heavy rain in that region could cause flash floods.\u00a0 The outer rainbands of Tropical Storm Danas could also drop locally heavy rain over western Kyushu.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tropical Storm Danas sped toward South Korea on Friday as it moved quickly north-northeast over the East China Sea.\u00a0 At 11:00 a.m. EDT on Friday the center of Tropical Storm Danas was located at latitude 32.3\u00b0N and longitude 125.1\u00b0E which put it about 190 miles (305 km) south-southwest of Mopko, South Korea.\u00a0 Danas was moving [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[2,5],"tags":[442,43,1548,1149,44,133,130,1547,443],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/7957"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=7957"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/7957\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":7958,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/7957\/revisions\/7958"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=7957"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=7957"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=7957"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
