Large Tropical Storm Krosa brought wind and rain to parts of southwestern Japan on Wednesday night.\u00a0 At 11:00 p.m. EDT on Wednesday the center of Tropical Storm Krosa was located at latitude 33.2\u00b0N and longitude 132.9\u00b0E which put it about 20 miles (30 km) south-southwest of Uwajima, Japan.\u00a0 Krosa was moving toward the north at 13 m.p.h. (20 km\/h).\u00a0 The maximum sustained wind speed was 70 m.p.h. (110 km\/h) and there were wind gusts to 85 m.p.h. (135 km\/h).\u00a0 The minimum surface pressure was 975 mb.<\/p>\n
The center of large Tropical Storm Krosa was near the southwestern coast of Shikoku on Wednesday night.\u00a0 The strongest winds were blowing in rainbands that were east of the center of circulation.\u00a0 Winds to tropical storm force extended out about 260 miles (420 km) from the center of circulation.\u00a0 The wind was weaker in the western half of Krosa.<\/p>\n
Heavy rain was falling on the south facing slopes of Shikoku where the wind was blowing up the slopes.\u00a0 Heavy rain was also falling on south facing slopes in Wakayama, Mie, Nara and Shiga prefectures in Honshu.\u00a0 Prolonged heavy rainfall could cause flash floods in some locations.<\/p>\n
