A tropical cyclone formed southwest of Mumbai, India on Thursday.\u00a0 At 11:00 p.m. EDT on Thursday the center of Tropical Cyclone 04A was located at latitude 15.7\u00b0N and longitude 71.3\u00b0E which put it about 200 miles (320 km) southwest of Mumbai, India.\u00a0 It was moving toward the north at 2 m.p.h. (3 km\/h).\u00a0 The maximum sustained wind speed was 45 m.p.h. (75 km\/h) and there were wind gusts to 60 m.p.h. (95 km\/h).\u00a0 The minimum surface pressure was 997 mb.<\/p>\n
A distinct low level center of circulation formed within a broad area of low pressure over the Arabian Sea west of India.\u00a0 Thunderstorms were developing near the low level center.\u00a0 Bands of showers and thunderstorms were forming and the bands began to revolve around the center of circulation.\u00a0 Storms near the center started to generate upper level divergence which was pumping mass away from the tropical cyclone.\u00a0 Winds to tropical storm force extended out 105 miles (165 km) from the center of circulation.<\/p>\n
Tropical Cyclone 04A will move through an environment favorable for intensification during the next 48 to 72 hours.\u00a0 It will move over water where the Sea Surface Temperature is near 29\u00b0C.\u00a0 The tropical cyclone will move through a region where the upper level wind are weak and there will be little vertical wind shear.\u00a0 Tropical Cyclone 04A will continue to intensify and it is likely to strengthen into the equivalent of a hurricane\/typhoon within 24 to 36 hours.<\/p>\n
Tropical Cyclone 04A will move south of a high pressure system that extends from India across the northern Arabian Sea.\u00a0 The high will steer the tropical cyclone in a west-northwesterly direction.\u00a0 On its anticipated track Tropical Cyclone 04A should start to move away from India during the next 24 hours.\u00a0 The tropical cyclone could approach Oman in about five days<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
