{"id":8964,"date":"2019-12-02T04:18:47","date_gmt":"2019-12-02T04:18:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/?p=8964"},"modified":"2019-12-02T04:18:47","modified_gmt":"2019-12-02T04:18:47","slug":"typhoon-kammuri-strengthens-as-it-nears-southeast-luzon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/?p=8964","title":{"rendered":"Typhoon Kammuri Strengthens As It Nears Southeast Luzon"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Typhoon Kammuri strengthened as it neared southeast Luzon on Sunday night.\u00a0 At 10:00 p.m. EST on Sunday the center of Typhoon Kammuri was located at latitude 13.0\u00b0N and longitude 126.0\u00b0E which put it about 385 miles (625 km) east- southeast of Manila, Philippines and about 160 miles (260 km) east of Legaspi.\u00a0 Kammuri was moving toward the west at 15 m.p.h. (24 km\/h).\u00a0 The maximum sustained wind speed was 105 m.p.h. (165 km\/h) and there were wind gusts to 125 m.p.h. (200 km\/h).\u00a0 The minimum surface pressure was 959 mb.<\/p>\n<p>Typhoon Kammuri strengthened on Sunday.\u00a0 An ellipitical eye with a mean radius of 30 miles (50 km) cleared out at the center of circulation.\u00a0 A ring of strong thunderstorms surrounded the eye and the strongest winds were occurring in that ring of storms.\u00a0 Bands of showers and thunderstorms were revolving around the core of Kammuri.\u00a0 Storms near the core were generating upper level divergence which was pumping mass away from the typhoon.\u00a0 The removal of mass allowed the surface pressure to decrease.<\/p>\n<p>The wind field around Typhoon Kammuri became more symmetrical on Sunday.\u00a0 Winds to typhoon force extended out 50 miles (80 km) from the center of circulation.\u00a0 Winds to tropical storm force extended out 180 miles (290 km) from the center.\u00a0 The Hurricane Intensity Index (HII) was 17.8.\u00a0 The Hurricane Size Index (HSI) was 19.3 and the Hurricane Wind Intensity Size Index (HWISI) was 37.1.\u00a0 Typhoon Kammuri was capable of causing serious damage.<\/p>\n<p>Typhoon Kammuri will move through an environment favorable for intensification during the next 12 hours.\u00a0 Kammuri will move over water where the Sea Surface Temperature is near 29\u00b0C.\u00a0 It will move through a region where the upper level winds are weak and there will be little vertical wind shear.\u00a0 Typhoon Kammuri could strengthen into the equivalent of a major hurricane before it reaches southeastern Luzon.\u00a0 Kammuri will start to weaken after the center moves over land.<\/p>\n<p>Typhoon Kammuri will move south of a high pressure system over the Western North Pacific Ocean.\u00a0 The high will steer Kammuri toward the west during the next several days.\u00a0 On its anticipated track the center of Typhoon Kammuri will pass between Samar and Catanduanes Island before making landfall near Sorsogon on southeast Luzon.\u00a0 The center of Kammuri will pass near Legaspi, Tabaco and Ligao.<\/p>\n<p>Typhoon Kammuri will be capable of causing major damage in the Philippines.\u00a0 Kammuri will bring strong winds to southeast Luzon.\u00a0 Typhoon Kammuri could also produce winds to near typhoon force in Virac on Catanduanes Island.\u00a0 Kammuri could produce a storm surge of up to 10 feet (3 meters) in locations where the wind blows water toward the coast.\u00a0 Typhoon Kammuri will drop locally heavy rain over southern Luzon.\u00a0 Flash floods could occur, especially in areas of steeper slopes.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Typhoon Kammuri strengthened as it neared southeast Luzon on Sunday night.\u00a0 At 10:00 p.m. EST on Sunday the center of Typhoon Kammuri was located at latitude 13.0\u00b0N and longitude 126.0\u00b0E which put it about 385 miles (625 km) east- southeast of Manila, Philippines and about 160 miles (260 km) east of Legaspi.\u00a0 Kammuri was moving [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[2,5],"tags":[582,1835,650,1833,1812,1839,103,604,64,296,1837,1838,1834,1836,583],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/8964"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=8964"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/8964\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":8965,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/8964\/revisions\/8965"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=8964"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=8964"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=8964"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
