{"id":8967,"date":"2019-12-02T18:08:28","date_gmt":"2019-12-02T18:08:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/?p=8967"},"modified":"2019-12-02T18:09:50","modified_gmt":"2019-12-02T18:09:50","slug":"major-typhoon-kammuri-makes-landfall-on-southeastern-luzon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/?p=8967","title":{"rendered":"Major Typhoon Kammuri Makes Landfall on Southeastern Luzon"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Major Typhoon Kammuri made landfall on southeastern Luzon near Sorsogon and Legaspi on Monday.\u00a0 At noon EST on Monday the center of Typhoon Kammuri was located at latitude 13.2\u00b0N and longitude 123.6\u00b0E which put it about 10 miles (15 km) west of Legaspi, Philippines and about 230 miles (370 km) east-southeast of Manila.\u00a0 Kamuri was moving toward the west at 11 m.p.h. (17 km\/h).\u00a0 The maximum sustained wind speed was 130 m.p.h. (210 km\/h) and there were wind gusts to 160 m.p.h. (260 km\/h).\u00a0 The minimum surface pressure was 950 mb.<\/p>\n<p>Typhoon Kammuri rapidly intensified into the equivalent of a major hurricane during the 12 hours prior to landfall on Monday.\u00a0 A large eye with a diameter to 50 miles (80 km) developed at the center of Kammuri.\u00a0 A thick ring of strong thunderstorms surrounded the eye and the strongest winds were occurring in that ring of storms.\u00a0 Bands of showers and thunderstorms were revolving around the core of the typhoon.\u00a0 Storms near the core generated strong upper level divergence which pumped mass away from the typhoon in all directions.\u00a0 The removal of large amounts of mass allowed the surface pressure to decrease more quickly.<\/p>\n<p>Typhoon Kammuri also grew larger as it got stronger.\u00a0 Winds to typhoon force extended out about 50 miles (80 km) in most portions of Kammuri, but those strong winds extended out 90 miles (145 km) in the northwestern part of the circulation.\u00a0 Winds to tropical storm force extended out 175 miles (280 km) in most parts of the circulation, but they extended out 300 miles (480 km) to the northwest of the center of Kammuri.\u00a0 The Hurricane Intensity Index (HII) for Typhoon Kammuri was 25.1.\u00a0 The Hurricane Size Index (HSI) was 25.4 and the Hurricane Wind Intensity Size Index (HWISI) was 50.5.\u00a0 Typhoon Kammuri was capable of causing widespread major damage to southern Luzon.<\/p>\n<p>Typhoon Kammuri will move south of a ridge of high pressure over the Western North Pacific Ocean.\u00a0 The ridge will steer Kammuri toward the west-northwest during the next 36 to 48 hours.\u00a0 On its anticipated track Typhoon Kammuri will move across southeastern Luzon and over the Sibuyan Sea during the next few hours.\u00a0 The center of Kammuri is forecast to pass south of Manila in 18 to 24 hours.<\/p>\n<p>Typhoon Kammuri will weaken slowly as it moves across southeastern Luzon.\u00a0 Kammuri will bring strong winds and heavy rain to southern Luzon.\u00a0 Typhoon Kammuri will also have a big impact on Burias, Marinduque Island and Mindoro.\u00a0 Kammuri could produce winds to near typhoon force around Manila.\u00a0 Typhoon Kammuri is likely to cause major damage around Legaspi.\u00a0 Locally heavy rain could produce flash floods in numerous locations.\u00a0 Kammuri could cause serious damage around Manila.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Major Typhoon Kammuri made landfall on southeastern Luzon near Sorsogon and Legaspi on Monday.\u00a0 At noon EST on Monday the center of Typhoon Kammuri was located at latitude 13.2\u00b0N and longitude 123.6\u00b0E which put it about 10 miles (15 km) west of Legaspi, Philippines and about 230 miles (370 km) east-southeast of Manila.\u00a0 Kamuri was [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[2,5],"tags":[582,1840,650,1833,1812,103,604,1841,297,64,1842,1837,1834,583],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/8967"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=8967"}],"version-history":[{"count":2,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/8967\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":8969,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/8967\/revisions\/8969"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=8967"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=8967"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=8967"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
