{"id":9166,"date":"2020-01-17T21:39:01","date_gmt":"2020-01-17T21:39:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/?p=9166"},"modified":"2020-01-17T21:39:01","modified_gmt":"2020-01-17T21:39:01","slug":"tropical-cyclone-tino-brings-wind-rain-to-eastern-fiji","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/?p=9166","title":{"rendered":"Tropical Cyclone Tino Brings Wind, Rain to Eastern Fiji"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Tropical Cyclone Tino brought wind and rain to eastern Fiji on Friday.\u00a0 The core of Tino moved east of Vanua Levu but the large circulation around the tropical cyclone brought wind and rain across eastern Fiji.\u00a0 There were reports of flash floods in some parts of Fiji.\u00a0 At 4:00 p.m. EST on Friday the center of Tropical Cyclone Tino was located at latitude 18.6\u00b0S and longitude 176.7\u00b0W which put it about 190 miles (305 km) north-northwest of Nuku Alofa, Tonga.\u00a0 Tino was moving toward the southeast at 27 m.p.h. (45 km\/h).\u00a0 The maximum sustained wind speed was 80 m.p.h. (130 km\/h) and there were wind gusts to 100 m.p.h. (160 km\/h).\u00a0 The minimum surface pressure was 964 mb.<\/p>\n<p>Tropical Cyclone Tino intensified into the equivalent of a hurricane\/typhoon as it moved over eastern Fiji.\u00a0 The inner end of a rainband wrapped around the center of circulation and a possible eye was seen on some infrared satellite images.\u00a0 The strongest winds were occurring in a ring of thunderstorms around the center of circulation.\u00a0 Bands of showers and thunderstorms were revolving around the core of the tropical cyclone.\u00a0 There was a large circulation around Tropical Cyclone Tino.\u00a0 Winds to hurricane\/typhoon force extended out 60 miles (95 km) from the center of circulation.\u00a0 Winds to tropical storm force extended out 400 miles (645 km) from the center.<\/p>\n<p>The Hurricane Intensity Index (HII) for Tropical Cyclone Tino was 11.5.\u00a0 The Hurricane Size Index (HSI) was 22.6 and the Hurricane Wind Intensity Size Index (HWISI) was 34.1.\u00a0 Tropical Cyclone Tino was capable of causing widespread mostly minor damage and smaller areas of more significant damage.<\/p>\n<p>Tropical Cyclone Tino will move through an environment favorable for intensification during the next 12 hours.\u00a0 Tino will move over water where the Sea Surface Temperature is near 28\u00b0C.\u00a0 It will move around the southwestern portion of an upper level ridge over the South Pacific Ocean.\u00a0 The ridge will produce northwesterly winds which will blow toward the top of the circulation.\u00a0 Those winds will cause moderate vertical wind shear, but the shear will not be strong enough during the next 12 hours to prevent intensification.\u00a0\u00a0 The wind speed will increase in about a day or so and more vertical wind shear will cause Tropical Cyclone Tino to weaken when that occurs.<\/p>\n<p>Tropical Cyclone Tino will around the southwestern end of a high pressure system over the South Pacific Ocean.\u00a0 The high will steer Tino toward the southeast.\u00a0 On its anticipated track the center of Tropical Cyclone Tino could affect Tonga within 12 hours.\u00a0 Tino will be the equivalent of a hurricane\/typhoon when it moves over Tonga.\u00a0 It will bring strong winds and rain.\u00a0 Locally heavy rain could cause flash floods.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tropical Cyclone Tino brought wind and rain to eastern Fiji on Friday.\u00a0 The core of Tino moved east of Vanua Levu but the large circulation around the tropical cyclone brought wind and rain across eastern Fiji.\u00a0 There were reports of flash floods in some parts of Fiji.\u00a0 At 4:00 p.m. EST on Friday the center [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[76,2],"tags":[953,89,650,1886,951,1914,307,1913,1429],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/9166"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=9166"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/9166\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":9167,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/9166\/revisions\/9167"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=9166"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=9166"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=9166"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
