{"id":9528,"date":"2020-05-18T13:37:14","date_gmt":"2020-05-18T13:37:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/?p=9528"},"modified":"2020-05-18T13:37:14","modified_gmt":"2020-05-18T13:37:14","slug":"tropical-cyclone-amphan-intensifies-into-equivalent-of-cat-5-hurricane","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/?p=9528","title":{"rendered":"Tropical Cyclone Amphan Intensifies Into Equivalent of Cat. 5 Hurricane"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Tropical Cyclone Amphan intensified into equivalent of a Category 5 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Scale over the Bay of Bengal on Monday.\u00a0 At 5:00 a.m. EDT on Monday the center of Tropical Cyclone Amphan was located at latitude 13.9\u00b0N and longitude 86.5\u00b0E which put it about 635 miles (1025 km) south-southwest of Kolkata, India.\u00a0 Amphan was moving toward the north at 7 m.p.h. (11 km\/h).\u00a0 The maximum sustained wind speed was 160 m.p.h. (260 km\/h) and there were wind gusts to 195 m.p.h.
