{"id":9790,"date":"2020-07-10T12:34:29","date_gmt":"2020-07-10T12:34:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/?p=9790"},"modified":"2020-07-10T12:34:29","modified_gmt":"2020-07-10T12:34:29","slug":"tropical-storm-fay-drops-heavy-rain-on-delaware-and-new-jersey","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/?p=9790","title":{"rendered":"Tropical Storm Fay Drops Heavy Rain on Delaware and New Jersey"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Tropical Storm Fay dropped heavy rain on parts of Delaware and southern New Jersey on Friday morning.\u00a0 At 8:00 a.m. EDT on Friday the center of Tropical Storm Fay was located at latitude 37.6\u00b0N and longitude 74.7\u00b0W which put it about 90 miles (145 km) south of Cape May, New Jersey.\u00a0 Fay was moving toward the north at 10 m.p.h. (16 km\/h).\u00a0 The maximum sustained wind speed was 50 m.p.h. (80 km\/h) and there were wind gusts to 65 m.p.h. (105 km\/h).\u00a0 The minimum surface pressure was 999 mb.<\/p>\n<p>A <strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">Tropical Storm Warning was in effect for the portion of the coast from Fenwick Island, Delaware to Watch Hill, Rhode Island including southern Delaware Bay, Long Island and Long Island Sound.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">Tropical Storm Fay intensified slowly on Friday morning.\u00a0 A reconnaissance aircraft reported that the minimum surface pressure decreased to 999 mb.\u00a0 A ring of showers and lower clouds encircled the center of Tropical Storm Fay.\u00a0 Bands of showers and thunderstorms wrapped around the northern and western sides of Fay.\u00a0 Bands in the southern part of the circulation consisted primarily of showers and lower clouds.\u00a0 Drier air was wrapping around the southern portion of the tropical storm.\u00a0 Winds to tropical storm force extended out 140 miles (225 km) in the eastern side of Tropical Storm Fay.\u00a0 Winds to tropical storm force extended out 80 miles (130 km) on the western side of the circulation. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>Tropical Storm Fay will move through an environment that could allow for some additional intensification during the next few hours.\u00a0 Fay will move over water where the Sea Surface Temperature is near 26\u00b0C.\u00a0 An upper level trough over the eastern U.S. will produce southwesterly winds which will blow toward the top of the circulation.\u00a0 Those winds will cause moderate vertical wind shear.\u00a0 The shear will inhibit intensification, but it may not be strong enough to prevent Tropical Storm Fay from strengthening a little more.<\/p>\n<p>The upper level trough over the eastern U.S. and a high pressure system over the Atlantic Ocean will interact to steer Tropical Storm Fay toward the north-northeast during the next several days.\u00a0 On its anticipated track Fay could approach the coast of New Jersey in a few hours.\u00a0 Tropical Storm Fay will move across Long Island on Friday night.<\/p>\n<p>Tropical Storm Fay will bring gusty winds to the coast of Delaware, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut and Rhode Island.\u00a0 Locally heavy rain will fall over those areas as the center of Fay approaches.\u00a0 Flood Watches have been issued for parts of Delaware, New Jersey, eastern Pennsylvania, southeastern New York, Connecticut and western Massachusetts.\u00a0\u00a0 Easterly winds blowing around the north side of Tropical Storm Fay could push water toward the coast.\u00a0 Water Level rises of three feet (1 meter) could occur in some locations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tropical Storm Fay dropped heavy rain on parts of Delaware and southern New Jersey on Friday morning.\u00a0 At 8:00 a.m. EDT on Friday the center of Tropical Storm Fay was located at latitude 37.6\u00b0N and longitude 74.7\u00b0W which put it about 90 miles (145 km) south of Cape May, New Jersey.\u00a0 Fay was moving toward [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[3,2],"tags":[154,156,2072,505,497,2071,2074,504,507,123,206,2075,506,2070,2073],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/9790"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=9790"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/9790\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":9791,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/9790\/revisions\/9791"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=9790"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=9790"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=9790"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
