{"id":9820,"date":"2020-07-20T15:33:54","date_gmt":"2020-07-20T15:33:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/?p=9820"},"modified":"2020-07-20T15:33:54","modified_gmt":"2020-07-20T15:33:54","slug":"two-tropical-depressions-form-over-eastern-pacific","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/?p=9820","title":{"rendered":"Two Tropical Depressions Form Over Eastern Pacific"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Two tropical depressions formed over the Eastern North Pacific Ocean on Monday.\u00a0 At 11:00 a.m. EDT on Monday the center of Tropical Depression Seven-E was located at latitude 18.7\u00b0N and longitude 130.3\u00b0E which put it about 1345 miles (2170 km) west of the southern tip of Baja California.\u00a0 The depression was moving toward the northwest at 13 m.p.h. (20 km\/h).\u00a0 The maximum sustained wind speed was 35 m.p.h. (55 km\/h) and there were wind gusts to 45 m.p.h. (75 km\/h).\u00a0 The minimum surface pressure was 1008 mb.<\/p>\n<p>At 11:00 a.m. EDT on Monday the center of Tropical Depression Eight-E was located at latitude 13.7\u00b0N and longitude 119.8\u00b0W which put it about 905 miles (1460 km) southwest of the southern tip of Baja California.\u00a0 The depression was moving toward the west-southwest at 7 m.p.h. (11 km\/h).\u00a0 The maximum sustained wind speed was 35 m.p.h. (55 km\/h) and there were wind gusts to 45 m.p.h. (75 km\/h).\u00a0 The minimum surface pressure was 1008 mb.<\/p>\n<p>The distribution of thunderstorms around Tropical Depression Seven-E was asymmetrical.\u00a0 The strongest storms were occurring in bands southwest of the center of circulation.\u00a0 Bands in other parts of the depression consisted primarily of showers and lower clouds.\u00a0 The depression was already to moving over water where the Sea Surface Temperature was near 25\u00b0C.\u00a0 It was moving under the southwestern part of an upper level ridge which was producing northeasterly winds.\u00a0 Those winds were blowing toward the top of the depression and they were causing moderate vertical wind shear.\u00a0 Cooler water and wind shear were contributing to the asymmetrical distribution of thunderstorms.<\/p>\n<p>Tropical Depression Seven-E is likely to weaken since it will continue to move over cooler water.\u00a0 The depression will move south of a subtropical high pressure system.\u00a0 The high will steer the depression toward the west while it weakens.\u00a0 On its anticipated track the depression will weaken long before it could pose a threat to Hawaii.<\/p>\n<p>The distribution of thunderstorms around Tropical Depression Eight-E is also asymmetrical.\u00a0 Many of the strongest storms were occurring in bands in the western half of the circulation.\u00a0 Some thunderstorms began to develop in bands in the eastern half of the depression on Monday morning.\u00a0 Storms on the western side of the circulation began to generate upper level divergence which pumped mass away from the depression.<\/p>\n<p>Tropical Depression Eight-E will move through an environment favorable for intensification during the next several days.\u00a0 The depression will move over water where the Sea Surface Temperature is near 29\u00b0C.\u00a0 The upper level ridge over the Eastern North Pacific Ocean will produce northeasterly winds which will blow toward the top of the depression.\u00a0 Those winds will cause some vertical wind shear, but the shear will have less effect because the depression will be over warmer water.\u00a0 Tropical Depression Eight-E will strengthen during the next 48 hours and it could intensify into a hurricane.<\/p>\n<p>Tropical Depression Eight-E will move around the southern side of the subtropical high pressure system over the Eastern North Pacific Ocean.\u00a0 The high will steer the depression toward the west during the next few days.\u00a0 On its anticipated track the depression will move in the general direction of Hawaii.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Two tropical depressions formed over the Eastern North Pacific Ocean on Monday.\u00a0 At 11:00 a.m. EDT on Monday the center of Tropical Depression Seven-E was located at latitude 18.7\u00b0N and longitude 130.3\u00b0E which put it about 1345 miles (2170 km) west of the southern tip of Baja California.\u00a0 The depression was moving toward the northwest [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[4,2],"tags":[429,430,39,431,432,23,24,734,2076],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/9820"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=9820"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/9820\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":9821,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/9820\/revisions\/9821"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=9820"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=9820"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/jayhobgood.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=9820"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
